Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Would you rather have 2010 Cassel (the year with Weis) or 2011/2012 Smith?

I think Smith is the better player, but I don't think the gap is as big as some think.

This is the part that would worry me about Sanchez, as well as the locker room issues. If you want to make a comparison with Smith, who was a high draft pick and struggled early, nobody had any doubts about his work ethic and leadership skills.

Mark might have been able to succeed (and I suppose still could) with a different support structure. As you said, I don't think he'll ever be able to. He seems pretty mentally shot.

Sanchez made some nice throws in clutch situations, but let's be clear that the only times he's ever been successful was when he was a game manager. When the Jets made the playoffs, it's because they had an elite defense in a run-heavy offense where the QB was asked to not make mistakes.

But yeah... I always do wonder what a non-players coach would have done for Sanchez. Ryan is a lot more Romeo than people realize.

It seems that alot of the Qb's that end up busting hard are obviously in a terribly shitty situation. We know what Sanchez can do when things were good in NY, he was pretty impressive for a young guy.

Look at all the big QB busts. They've all been with shitty teams.

A guy like Luck would probably be great anywhere, but every other guy, the situation has to be right as well.

Let's be real...Sanchez sucks.

The guy has been in the bottom three of starting QB ratings every single year since he came into the league.

He's very inaccurate, very inconsistent and hasn't progressed at all.

Smith. Not because he's very good, but because Cassel is that bad. This is a clear upgrade.

Smith isn't going to crawl into a fetal position or take phantom sacks.

Smith isn't going to fumble constantly nor is he a deer in the headlights.

Smith isn't going to say he "Graded out perfectly" after a game in which his QB rating was 20.

Need I go on?

He had a mediocre arm and horrible foot work. He also forced many of his throws and was inaccurate beyond 15 yards. His delivery was a little funky as well and he didn't have but a single season as a starter on a team that was absolutely loaded around him.

It was just like Jimmy Clausen, people around here got all jacked up about his stats and success at the college level in a system(s) that catered to elevating the QB/passing game stats.
