Charles will get the ball more...count on it
As the season progresses Charles will get the ball more. A lot of people calling in on the radio last night were bitching that he didn't carry more.
One thing people tend to forget about JC, as awesome as he is, he has a tendancy to fumble. TJ does not. Had the rain not come I think you would have seen JC carry the rock more. But with rain pouring down and a sloppy, sloppy field + a 2 TD lead I think Weis felt TJ was the better option. Not because he would bust the big plays but because there is less chance of a fumble and turnover in those conditions. We went into a shell for the 2nd hallf because of the rain and having a lead. Maybe too much of a shell. But I think the weather and the score and JC's tendancy to let go of the ball may have had something to do with it. Also it wa game one. We don't want Charles mangled after 1 or 2 games. Just a thought. |

I think they're just trying not to LJ him to death.Yes I want to see him get more touches but I can't say that they're stupid for taking it easy on him. We'll see I guess but I bet as the season goes on he will get his.

We have to be careful though. We don't want to get a tendancy that whenever Charles does get in the game he gets the ball. I think it was he who got thwarted for a 6 yard loss on the last 3rd and 4 play we had. We have to be careful not do telegraph that when JC is in he is the one getting ball.

i think they want to keep Charles around and healthy until the team is good as well.
you burn a bunch of carries now and Charles will be "dead" in a year or 2 when the team is actually ready to compete. they better do the same with DMC

I don't think they were limiting his carries as much as he was a victim of circumstance. The offense went 3 and out 7 times last night, and they didn't have a drive go more than 8 plays. 49 total plays doesn't leave a whole lot of opportunities to spread around, and in the end his 12 touches, as few as that seems, were nearly 25% of the team's total. Sustain a couple more drives, and up that team total to, say, 65, and that would bring him up to 15 touches for the game, which is I'd say the lower end of where you'd want him to be (15-20).

On a side note, given the strategy of running Jones up the gut in the 2nd half, I actually wouldn't have minded seeing what Battle could do. Dude had a really nice preseason and can really run between the tackles. |

I think this team is going to play a lot like the 2001 patriots, perhaps not in results but in how they approach a game.
They will have a bend but don't break defense, play to protect the ball on offense, and not put too much on the qb's plate. Of course, Weiss and Crennel were the coordinators for that 2001 Pats team. |
