--Ernest Dowson, 1897 Dowson also wrote this poem: Green changed to white, emerald to opal: nothing was changed. The man let the water trickle gently into his glass, and as the green clouded, a mist fell from his mind. Then he drank opaline. Memories and terrors beset him. The past tore after him like a panther and through the blackness of the present he saw the luminous tiger eyes of the things to be. But he drank opaline. And that obscure night of the soul, and the valley of humiliation, through which he stumbled, were forgotten. He saw blue vistas of undiscovered countries, high prospects and a quiet, caressing sea. The past shed its perfume over him to-day held his hand as if it were a little child, and to-morrow shone like a white star: nothing was changed. He drank opaline. The man had known the obscure night of the soul, and lay even now in the valley of humiliation; and the tiger menace of the things to be was red in the skies. But for a little while he had forgotten. Green changed to white, emerald to opal: nothing was changed. |

I read the 1st paragraph of his bio and this sentence made me laugh out loud!
"He died of alcoholism in 1900 at the early age of 33." |

Of course this doesn't put him in real good light either. But his poem still makes me want some absinthe.
"In 1891 he met Adelaide Foltinowicz, a restaurateur's daughter, then aged 12 and she became a symbol of love and innocence in some of his verse. He courted her for 2 years but when she came of age she married a waiter who worked in her father's restaurant!" |

We absolutely MUST get together for a night of mad-on-drunk and debauchery...
But only if you can sign on Mrs. Vegas to dictate the madness....

I have to ask you what is the appeal of that show? It comes on midnight here in Dallas and I've tried listening to it on my way home from work and I just do not get it. Don and Mike seem to prattle on and on about their personal lives and are just not funny and entertaining to me. Is the show some kind of acquired taste? I'm usually exhausted coming home from work and these guys increase my chance at falling asleep at the wheel.
