Brian Griese was an attempt at drafting a franchise QB.

The Broncos didn't have the ammo to get a QB with a high pick at the time.

Shanny > Belichick, and his record against that fraud is proof.

Shanny's record has shown that like Belichick, his success has come only when having an elite QB.

The Broncos were a very good team with Plummer.

42 wins in 4 years is nothing to scoff at.

Fair. BB was 11-5 the yr he didn't have Brady. Granted it was a weak schedule but in the end I am not sure there is much of a difference. Neither has had any real "great coach" success without their elite QB. Shanny has either 0 or 1 playoff win without Elway right? Also not much in WAS to care about before RG3.

Either way, while I do also feel BB gets way too much credit, I just feel fraud is a little bit much.

Shanahan's 5-4 vs. Belichick. You need to slow down there a bit trigger. Running around like a crazy person in every thread proclaiming Belichick a huge fraud is not intelligent. He is certainly one of the elite coaches in football.

Pioli not addressing the back up option better than he did in the off season was a major failure on his part. He gift wrapped Cassel as his starter since Manning rejected a visit to him. Cassel was his boy all the way, he wanted to look like a saint with Cassel and RC went along for the ride with him.

RC was all over wanting RG3, Manning, anybody but Cassel and yet Pioli drove the bus right off the cliff and brought in Brady Quinn. Now if Quinn lights it up, he can take credit for that too.

Stanzi has not had a chance to play, BTA he hasn't shown enough to beat out anybody. Tanney is on IR, but a long shot to even make camp next year with Cassel & or Quinn gone. Not addressing the QB issue is his failure.

Here's the thing: I truly believe after listening to all the interviews during the offseason that Pioli actually thought that Stanzi was going to be able to take the next step and fight for the backup QB job this year and be ready to push Cassel if he faltered. He seemed to really believe in Stanzi.

Doesn't say much about his evaluation of QB's. Then again it puts us in prime position to go after three new QB's next year!

1) It was a no brainer to bring Cassel in here. He has been in the system, learning from the best. He had a decent first go for the Pats, too, and it's not like he had a pre season to get going, either.

2) The contract was a good move, it saved the team $$$.

3) Cassel failed miserably during the playoff game, then choked out the following season. At this point, Pioli should have been looking for a QB. Then came Kyle Orton.

4) Orton was an instant success for two reasons; He is better QB than Cassel by far, and he had a season of success with Josh McD.

5) One reason Orton had success so early here in KC is that he knows the system, having learned it from Josh.

So, ya, the Chiefs should have moved on from commitment to Cassel after last season & the playoff game revealed that, despite Cassel's seasons sitting behind Tom Brady plus having BB coach, he was equipped with what needed to be provided for him to thrive by last season and he tanked it miserably.

I think the move was good initially as this team lost 8 QB's during the previous 2 seasons before Pioli/Cassel. Cassel is sturdy, he brought stability continuity to the position sorely needed in KC and Bowe was a beneficiary.

I'm not gonna go into who may have been available or an upgrade -- no point since Pioli already cooked his goose with the Orton affair. We knew after this he was the one keeping Cassel on the field during all that fail. But, it needs to be said this type offense requires a specific type QB. Somebody who can stand in and fire away off the play action, not a scrambler.

Quinn is mobile, but he does stay put when he's got protection. If he can get his accuracy consistent, he's got a shot here imo.

Maybe that's a bit harsh. I feel like Tannehill's ceiling is Romo or Jay Cutler. Good but not THAT good. But he may very well prove me wrong. The Dolphins are such a trainwreck though.

But I'm the idiot who had concerns about RG III because he's going to run around too much and get his head bashed in. He has the potential to be a legend but he's not a linebacker like Cam Newton either. It's amazing to watch the guy run though, truly special, and he's got the arm to go with it. He just needs to stay on the field.

If that's Tannehill's ceiling, I'd take it in a heartbeat. You can easily win a Super Bowl with either of those guys when everything else is in place.

RGIII is a smart kid. He's playing behind an awful offensive line and a team that had no cap room (Thanks, Goodell!) to improve it but he'll figure it out. He's smarter than Vick and has guys to mentor him, like Steve Young.

He'll be fine.

I agree with you on a lot of stuff but this ain't one of them.

Cutler is a baby and Romo is a clinical choke artist.

Super Bowl QBs, by and large, have "it".

Romo and Cutler (and Rivers, who is horribly overrated) have "that".
