I don't think you can manage with fear like that. Billy Hamilton plays every day and he's even smaller than Dyson

I'm not saying you're wrong. It's just a distinct possibility that he's a guy who is best when he doesn't have to deal with the grind of 150 games plus postseason. I thought we used him to perfection in the postseason last year.

He played a shit ton last year and was a 3 WAR guy. If that's exposed, sign me up

How much of that war was generated coming in late and stealing second base on his way to scoring a run?

I'm not sure what all components go into war and I'm good with platooning Dyson.

Pete was being his usual apoplectic self, and said basically Herrera was going to blow the 1st game in the 7th.
Of course, Herrera blew the next two batters away and stranded the runner and Pete regurgitated a stat that says "in situation x the runner scores 64% of the time" and them something herp-derpy about his detractors and their "hindsight".

It was typical Pete.

Oh, my! Somehow, I must have missed that in the game thread. I just remember Hootie bemoaning the fact that Herrera needs another pitch in his repertoires - which, of course, was before he struck out the final two batters he faced.o:-)

When the Rays had 1st & 3rd with 1 out in game 1, I said it was about to "cost us". After it didn't and using his 10000% hindsight vision, William mocked my statement. When I told him there is a 64% chance of a run scoring in that situation he proceeded to pile on with the mocking because stating the statistics and having the balls to make a call based on said stats before the act is moranic when you could just wait until it's all over, use hindsight and be a genius.

...and we love you pete, but shitting all over you in Royals threads has proven to be a winning formua, so it would be dangerous to stray from it.

...using the only pitch he's developed

He's the Latin Kyle Farnsworth. He better not lose any velocity or he'll be pitching for the Long Island Skeeters

This is such a ridiculous statement. Farnsworth was never, at any point in his career, as good as Herrera has been the past couple of years.

actually, he was

and he was the same guy

threw 100, never developed an out pitch (other than that 100)

there is absolutely no reason a guy who constantly hits 100 struggles to strike out a batter per inning pitched

it's because he has 100 and 90, and that's it

it's one of those things where I know how good he is, but it sucks, because I know how great he could be

Farnsworth was the prime example that not anyone can be a closer. There were times he'd just wilt under pressure. Comparing Herrera to him isn't fair. Herrera is a very good reliever that's been stuck behind two of the best closers in baseball. Farnsworth was inconsistent from year to year. His career numbers can't be anywhere close to Herrera's. Farnsworth had several years with 4-5 ERAs. His name shouldn't be mentioned in a class with any of our relievers.

while pitching in the midst of the steroid era in front of a defense that wasn't the best in baseball history (arguably)

...I'm just saying. I like Herrera. I really do. I just don't understand why he hasn't developed a better secondary pitch. Maybe he can't? I don't know.

Herrera's FIP is still miles ahead of Farnsworth. This is a ridiculous discussion. Fans are just spoiled because we've had two top 5 closers on the team. We're trying to pick apart very effective baseball players.

This bullpen is so good and so deep that we literally DFA'd a guy with a sub 3 ERA who is as good a clubhouse guy as you'll ever find. It's insane.

I didn't get that. I thought Frasor was pretty damn good. Not real sure what decided that Blanton stay and he goes?

Royals need a long inning guy in case a game gets out of control.

Plus, Frasor's FIP is very high. He has been pretty lucky for the most part.

Relax. I think Herrera is excellent. I just KNOW he could be the best reliever in baseball if he'd develop a pitch that wasn't a 92 MPH changeup. Flip side is, I guess his injury risk is pretty minimal.

Joe Blanton can pitch multiple times through a lineup. Jason Frasor cannot.

You're right. Kyle's career WAR is 6.1 and Kelvin's is 5.6.. except that Kelvin's accumulation is over 4 years, where kyle's was over 16... slight difference.

Kelvin's career ERA is 2.5... Farnie's was 4.26. I see the comparison.

Relax, guy. I'm talking about at their peaks. If Kelvin loses his 100 MPH, he's nothing. If he starts throwing 95, he's worthless.

I'm glad I'm not allowed to critique an excellent player. You're all pretending I think he sucks, which I don't. I just don't understand why his best secondary pitch is an average changeup

It would be amazing if he could develop another pitch, but we're getting awfully far down the line of things to worry about when we get to the third pitch of our seventh inning guy who already has a dominating fastball and an average changeup. I'd love to see him develop a slider/splitter like Holland throws, but comparing him to a bum like Farnsworth is pretty silly.

Meh. Farnsworth had some dominant years in a hitters era. When he had his 100, he was good.
