Anyone here ever deliver for Door-Dash, Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc?

I've been needing some extra cash here lately, so I signed up for Doordash and Uber Eats. (I'm currently waitlisted on Grubhub)

Honestly, I love it. The people are friendly, the tips are good, and I enjoy driving anyway.

Anyone else ever done this as a side gig?

Farmer to Butcher to grill at the Otter casa.

Good to know.

I won't be doing that. I enjoy a generous reward for a job well done but I'm not bribing you to do your job...

That literally is the job. You are paying someone to bring the food. If it’s not enough, they may not bring it. This is the opposite of tip culture to me. This is capitalism.

These drivers are contractors. They choose the orders they want.

My big problem with these services is that the price in the app is higher than the food is at the restaurant. I don’t mind paying to have it brought to me in the right situations , I have a problem paying a 25 percent premium on the food.

There are definitely times that paying an extra 25 bucks to save 30 minutes of my time to get in a work out, or spend a little more time relaxing is worth it.

This I don't mind tipping. I'm paying someone to do a service for me that I don't want to do myself. Especially Instacart. The issue is charging a service fee on top of upcharging everything.

That's one way to look at it. The other is convincing you that doing the same job without any benefits, paid time, or protections should be the customer's responsibility.

This isn't helping delivery drivers - it's hurting them.

To be honest, I don’t really care. I doubt most people do this as a full time gig.

I really doubt people that do this are making as much as they think after accounting for the wear and tear on your vehicle. You are best off doing it if you have the worst vehicle the service would possibly allow.

My thoughts exactly. Dude, I will gladly pay a damn good tip to the driver for bringing me food that I don't want to get my lazy ass out the door to get.

But **** Door Dash for charging more for the food, adding a delivery fee and a bunch of service charges to their shit.

I have no idea how people do this for a living. I'm still having fun doing it for a few hours at a time, but even that is starting to get old.

God Bless America for people being able to order food from a McDonald's 15 miles away, give zero tip, and then get pissed that you couldn't find their trailer because there's no clear markings of an address.

**** you.

This is an abnormal occurrence though. Most of the people I've delivered to are very polite. And a big thank you for the people who tip well. I had a $20 tip from a guy I delivered a pair of brake rotors to. He was SUPER pissed at the auto part store, but VERY thankful I was able to get him his parts in about 15 minutes.

The whole tipping industry is dumb. Alot of places you are made to tip before the service is even completed, then what is the point? It shouldn't exist because it benefits cheap people and in many industries what you get in tips is heavily related to your race, age, and sex. Pay your employees a fair and reasonable wage, but it's so entrenched in our culture I don't know how it changes. Most countries tipping is not even expected, let alone virtually mandatory like it is here.

Blah blah blah. Just give me a $3 tip for delivering your $50 worth of McDonald's across town and .

(Actually I agree with most of what you're saying)

And definitely get a mileage tracker app. Free version could be sufficient defending in your needs and use.
if you have to pay taxes on this extra job, it aint worth it
