The arguments may be identical but the two men are not.

Look, I understand and support your decision to cancel your season tickets. I would never in a million years tell someone how to spend their money and quite frankly, I'd give this regime at least a full year (if not two) before I plunked down any money, let alone, season tickets.

But Reid and Dorsey aren't Haley and Pioli. Reid has a proven track record of success. While he made the mistake of trying to take on personnel decisions and coach a football team, there's no denying the fact that when he was just a football coach, he was among the best in the game.

I don't believe that John Dorsey has been "Peter Principled" like Scott Pioli. It was obvious early on that Pioli was in over his head, from his free agency decisions to the draft to allowing his head coach to hire Clancy Pendergast, to allowing his head coach to fire Chan Gailey a week before the season and so on.

I don't know if John Dorsey will be a stellar GM or an average GM. But so far, he's re-signed his best players and franchised his LT. He's done a nice job of acquiring solid veterans in free agency and he identified the best available QB and traded for him. He's hasn't put on a show, hasn't made a spectacle of himself and has generally stayed out of the limelight.

I've seen Alex Smith over the years on many, many occasions. Sometimes he's been great, other times, not. But I watched him go into Denver on the last game of the season and knock the Broncos clear out of the playoffs. I've watched him "will" his team and up and down the field and I watched him quite a bit in 2011 and 2012.

What I've seen is NOTHING like Matt Cassel. The guy doesn't roll into a ball or take phantom sacks. If anything, he's need to throw the ball away (which he has improved upon). And it wasn't until 2011 that he finally had a decent offensive line in which to protect him, but he's never had DICK for wide receivers.

The bottom line is that the comparison between Cassel and Smith, regardless of the "stats", are absolutely invalid and inconsequential.

I mean, if he was spending his money on ugly hookers or really cheap alcohol, I'd probably tell him how to spend his money.

It would be for his own benefit though.

That's the myth of Alex Smith.

The 49ers ran for 200 yards in that game.

And even with the 49ers good line in 2011, he was sacked 44 times. He has a lot of Cassel-like characteristics.

Not everyone can be Steve Young or Joe Montana.

That doesn't mean that he can't be an average or above average QB, which is something the Chiefs haven't had really since 2005.

That's exactly what he is.

That's why a lot of people here already hate his guts.

We gave up two 2nd-round picks for a guy who can't even throw the ball down the field.

Exciting!

You know another guy who didn't throw the ball down the field a lot, Joe Montana.

And Crabtree was a lazy suckass for the 3.5 years prior.

It's clearly obvious that you didn't watch any of their games. Stats do not tell the whole story.

Regardless, anyone on the planet that argued that Alex Smith is more talented than Colin Kaepernick would be a fool.

Kaepernick is, right now, a very special player.

OK.

I suppose it was just coincidence Crabtree had 880 yards in 10 games with Kaepernick.

49ers fans will back all this up, BTW.

Not only were the numbers barely higher but Vernon Davis' numbers fell off a cliff with Kaep until the playoffs.
