When looking for a QB you need to ask yourself if the player is capable of leading a team to the SB. If he isn't, there is no reason to spend anything on acquiring him unless he's a backup.

Reid and Dorsey's job should be to win a Super Bowl. If they don't feel that there is a QB available in 2013 who can win a SB, that's an acceptable decision, but by committing to Alex Smith and constructing the rest of the team in the style they have, they've essentially said that there is no QB worth it in 2014 and possibly 2015.

It's a classic example of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

It will make the team better in 2013, but that's the equivalent of taking out a cash advance on a credit card to pay your mortgage every month.

I happen to think that Geno Smith can win a Super Bowl, but I understand that such a belief is not a consensus, so passing on him, although a poor decision in my mind, is defensible.

What isn't defensible is picking up a QB that I believe almost no one thinks can win a Super Bowl, because it makes acquiring a truly elite one more difficult.

They are betting their reputations and the fortunes of this team on the notion that the next two drafts don't have a franchise quarterback in them AT ALL.

We have to have hope that there are 3 teams that want to move up for Geno and that they believe the Jaguars will take him at 2...otherwise, our pick doesn't hold much weight.
