Alex played the game of his life and he was BETRAYED by the defense

Alex Smith dropped 44 points on the Colts and somehow still lost. Alex is a hero. 44 points can win you a SUPERBOWL. What happened to the best defense in the league? They sure weren't out there tonight. You could cut all of them and it wouldn't matter. What matters is having Alex.

He earned the extension. Yesterday is easily one of the best single games that a Chiefs QB has ever played.

But, this doesn't mean that we shouldn't be grooming a player under Smith, something this organization has never done. There should be zero loyalty to Daniel or Bray, and the team should be exploring all options, including a player who might, strangely, drop in the draft.

And I don't want to hear any bullshit about needing to get "impact" from first-round picks immediately. See: Fisher. And this player still might end up being a damn good pick; he just had a tremendous learning curve in year one, compounded with, at least, isolated pussitis.

You also have to realize that Jay Cutler just signed a 100 million plus contract. The contract Cassel signed is probably an average contract for a mid-range QB now.

That's what I like about Reid. He'll develop backups when he has the QB in place. Spot on Deez.

Realistically, they can't really afford to do that IMO. If he improves further he has you over the proverbial barrel. I don't like it, but he's going to be better than any other option AGAIN.

You go into this next off-season with Alex Smith primed to his the FA market and you're going to pay 3 million more per year.

You can't let him walk and he would have all the leverage.
