We need to extend Alex Smith

Alex played the game of his life and he was BETRAYED by the defense

Alex Smith dropped 44 points on the Colts and somehow still lost. Alex is a hero. 44 points can win you a SUPERBOWL. What happened to the best defense in the league? They sure weren't out there tonight. You could cut all of them and it wouldn't matter. What matters is having Alex.

And Alex did this with a struggling OL and below average WR's. The OL came together in the 2nd half and they played much better.

I think Alex could get close to 30 TD's and 4,000 yards next year. Can't wait to see Kelce back and the other weapons they will add.

I wouldn't trade him for either of those two, but a couple of others mentioned in this thread I sure would, and a few not mentioned.
He is going to get his money from the Chiefs, hopefully front-loaded in a big signing bonus or cap friendly manner.

Good post, except for the most important stat of all, winning the game.
Some think that is cruel, but that is all that really matters.
2-6 after the bye, with the wins coming against the Raiders and Redskins.

And here we go...

When Alex throws for 180 yards and a TD, it's a team game. ALL HE DOES IS WIN!

When Alex puts up that playoff performance, OMG THE DEFENSE IS ****ING HORRIBLE!

People want to spin it to fit their argument.

Right or wrong, Romo was given that money because he's shown time and time again he can put a team on his back and will them to win. He's the only reason that team is even in contention at the end of the season.

Right or wrong, Smith has shown he can do that precisely twice in his eight year career.

He doesn't deserve it, but I've come to grips with the idea of him getting it - as long as it doesn't hurt our chances to fill all the holes we have.

This is funny. Cowboys last 3 years 8-8.

He will and that's fine. He's earned it whatever the going rate is.

Some people can be mad about it, but the problem is, a team isn't going to find an immediate replacement at QB who would match that kind of production. Most teams usually play it safe and go with the " known quantity"

It's why guys like Romo, Cutler, Flacco and eventually Smith get big money despite a lot of fans objections.

I think the point is, Alex's game doesn't go into the dumpster if the running game takes a quarter or a half or even a full game off.

And whether people want to admit it or not, his scrambling is a huge asset to the offense.

Romo is going 8-8 with Murrary Dez Williams Austin and Witten. Give Alex Smith those weapons i bet he's not going 8-8 every year.
