We need to extend Alex Smith

Alex played the game of his life and he was BETRAYED by the defense

Alex Smith dropped 44 points on the Colts and somehow still lost. Alex is a hero. 44 points can win you a SUPERBOWL. What happened to the best defense in the league? They sure weren't out there tonight. You could cut all of them and it wouldn't matter. What matters is having Alex.

Smith is going to get $100 million contract. $52-55 million guaranteed. $17-$18 million per year.

It's not right, its way too much money but thats the going rate.

What we need to do is front load the contract like the Bears did with Cutler so you can get out of it after 3-4 years if Smith goes south.
100 mil after one season? 50 mil guaranteed? No way they go all nuts like that after the huge Cassel gafoo. Clark learned his lesson the hard way.

Seems like a lot of teams find solid players/stars with their late round picks and UDFA's. I can't remember the last late round/UDFA guy of ours that is on a level of a Burfict, Cruz, Welker, Romo, etc.
To be fair, our last one just killed himself in the parking lot at arrowhead last year.

But yeah, agree. Hemmingway seems to be a good chance atleast.

Player development is huge for us now. I'm actually sort of excited/hopeful that we don't pigeon hole ourselves come draft time. We're in a good spot to do what successful teams do and draft good/great football players that fall in the draft for bs reasons.

I'm sorry, but Belcher was nowhere near the level of a Burfict or Victor Cruz.

Sad that he's the closest thing to a late round/UDFA success in recent memory.

I don't.

Without much of a defense, i seriously doubt it.

Alex Smith with the Cowboys D would do better then 8-8
Romo has a top 10 passer-rating all-time.

And their defense was the worst of all-time.

Keep reaching.

We really need at least two of those guys to pan out.
You forgot Knile Davis.
