We need to extend Alex Smith

Alex played the game of his life and he was BETRAYED by the defense

Alex Smith dropped 44 points on the Colts and somehow still lost. Alex is a hero. 44 points can win you a SUPERBOWL. What happened to the best defense in the league? They sure weren't out there tonight. You could cut all of them and it wouldn't matter. What matters is having Alex.

He is gonna get more weapons and continue to improve.
I actually think he has a CHANCE of being a franchise QB.
We'll see how he does with a tougher schedule against possible scoring barn burners with Franchise/Elite QBs. I'm not talking about "good enough", it's all about him not choking when it's all on the line.

A lot of the failure or success is going to depend on upgrading the offense and getting a damn free safety.

It's sad to say.....but this defense needs to be upgraded more than the offense, IMO.

We've got DEs that are good against the run but can't rush the passer.
No depth behind Houston and Hali.
No FS who is worth a shit.
And add all of that in to the fact that we have a defensive coordinator who won't make adjustments and won't rotate in the depth he has.

sighs.

Still have to find a wr, and tight end.

Cant argue with what you said though.

we need to be great somewhere. Have to pick an impact aspect to our game.

Looks like receiver is where we have the chance to do it. Passing game is where the NFL is going. We have a QB that can throw the ball.

free safety on defense and big improvements for pass catchers on offense

I'm not sure Sutton would know what the hell to do with more players anyway.

He didn't choke when it was all on the line - the defense did.

Talent wise we're pretty set on defense with a few holes here or there. IMO it's Sutton's worthless chickenshit scheme that puts them in terrible positions. You just can't do what he did against the Colts and line up and play man all every single down without any adjustments at all. We literally blitzed twice in that game. Unacceptable.

On offense we have Charles and.. Alex? MAYBE Bowe? For all the praise he gets, Davis is only solid and is not a legitimate weapon or threat. We have no legitimate play makers on the outside that other teams have to game plan for. First and most important position they should address is WR (hopefully no throwaway 1st round picks like AJ Jenkins was for the 9ers) and then shore up the defense by getting a FS..

"Scheme" varies by definition but the philosophy or "scheme" of this defense is sound.

It's the play-calling and personnel groupings (or lack thereof) that hinder this team's success.

Yes, things went shit, but he couldn't maintain the lead while the Colts secondary was playing horribly also with the 28 point cushion.

Bring. It. On... no lie at all, if Alex cant handle this new schedule and crumbles beneath it, I will proudly stand before you and fall on thine sword.

But if Dorsey/Reid equip this guy the right way, I am completely comfortable with Axl at the helm... he's going to worry you a bit in the regular season, but I'm starting to to have faith in this guy to choke up on the bat a bit and get it done when it counts.

Alex doubters rejoice, next year will be the truest test of all....

System familiarity and new weapons vs a much tougher schedule... if he can get it done then, shut your whore mouths forever more.

Sorry, if your thought while watching that collapse was, Dammit Alex! You have a problem. The O did their job. The six points they scored in the final quarter and a half, shouldn't have even been needed. The fact the final drive stalled was just an after effect of the horrible day the D had, not the cause for the loss.
