I haven't had a ticket in 15 years running naked driving coast to coast. 75-80 is plenty fast on the interstate for me. |

This. With the new speed limit laws on the interstates I don't feel the need to speed. If the speed limit is 75, I'll set my cruise control on 80 and I know technically that is speeding but I also know that it isn't worth the cops time to pull me over. I don't understand all the lead footed drivers who feel it necessary to drive 90-100 on the interstate.

I really irks me when I see some young gal in a toy car going that fast. Both of my daughters had accidents at an early age that scared the crap out of them, and now they are very cautious. At 80, you are going 88 feet per second. Oh, and the other thing, especially on my Ram 1500, the gas mileage difference is huge. |

Speeding in the city makes even less sense to me. With all the traffic and start/stop driving, you aren't getting anywhere faster. You're also more likely to get stopped or get in an accident.

Yeah, even going 75-80 in a 70 can be hard if there are a lot of trucks on the road, since so many people can't pass one without dropping to the speed limit or under.... anyone you pass just ends up right behind you at the next cluster**** of cars.
I try to stay just under 80 for longer drives... it cuts down the ~200 mile trip to Omaha by about 20 minutes and at least at one time in MO, the difference between 9 over and 10 over was like $30 (IIRC), so the logical thing would be to either drive at 79 or 85+ (not that it never happens... ![]()

Not the I drive 45 everywhere I go crowd but the 45 Mph that randomly drops to 35 because a council person likes 35 on that stretch of road. My favorite is a couple towns over the state hwy is 65 Mph even thru some of the towns. Then you get to this one Town and it drops to 50 for about 1/4 mile then back to 65. Wtf

Like someone said above, I just take my medicine if I get stopped. I don't ridiculously speed, but I could be stopped for technically speeding just about every day, so I can't really complain.

Yeah, there's really no logical point unless you're trying to cut off several minutes of a long drive. People who really think getting past one more car is worth it just slow down traffic by cutting off people.

I use the "I donated to XXX Police Fund" sticker in the driver side rear window. Also Being 50 and looking it helps some. I try to stay within 5mph of the posted limit most of the time or go with the flow of traffic, whichever is faster. We have a little town close to me on major 2 lane (65mph) highway. When I say little I mean no stoplights, 1/4 mile frontage 25 people small where the speed limit drops from 65 to 35 for that 1/4 mile then back up. It is the main revenue source for the town.

Lump me in the 5 mph over group. Seems to work most of the time, knock on wood. Sometimes I'll go faster if there's a big convoy of people speeding, as long as I can get somewhere in the middle of it.

I use a Beltronics radar detector and it works very well. I cover the state of Montana and if the roads are nice I get after it. I have slowed way down from the no speed limit days, or the days when it was a $5 ticket, but I normally keep it at 10 over. In Montana you get a $20 ticket that doesn't go on your record for anything 10 MPH over or less. That's to say if the MHP even wants to take the time to pull you over for $20. That's only happened to me once.
Around here the MHP will give you the quick pull on the radar at the last minute so by the time your radar detector goes off, you're screwed. Mine has some serious range, so 99% of the time it will pick up the MHP gunning someone else miles up the road before I get to him, so I know he's around. I haven't had a ticket that has gone on my record for over 25 years. (Disclaimer: I had to bullshit my way out of one about five years ago)
