Just curious... If the fan called Smart a racial slur, was he justified for shoving the fan.

I think its an interesting debate about where the line should be drawn for fans to get away with jawing at players. Let's first see if there's any truth to this. My personal opinion is that sports should have leeway for fan behavior, but there's a line that fans too often cross.

One thing that is quite clear to me is how disappointed KC_Connection is that a racial slur wasn't said. It is pretty sad how many people were praying this was going to be a race issue.

To be clear, I'm not sure about anything. Nothing was made any clearer by them posting that video.

But for Smart to react like he never has before to a taunt/insult (and he gets taunted in every road game ceaselessly), for the fan himself to admit he was ashamed over what he said (and that he went too far), and for the fan to voluntarily decide not to go to any more games, it all leads one to believe that it was something far more than that.

the fan apology was a PR deal, just like the Marcus Smart apology. He took games off because he thought it is what would be expected. I am sure TT had something to do with him taking games off. You think either one of them felt bad? That is not a sign that there is more beneath the surface.

Smart is taunted just as ceaselessly as other athletes. You don't think the chair incident establishes he has a temper?

Whether he used the N-word or not, it sounds like this guy has a history. And according to John Lucas, he's said some messed up shit. I'm sure if Orr gets a pass for being PG in what he said here, it will be interesting to see if OSU players come out of the woodwork to tell some of those things. If that's the case, I really don't have a problem with him being called out for it, even if he did nothing wrong in this instance.

There is something to be mentioned though, that in the NBA those guys push and shove each other all the time, it's very much a "don't disrespect me, bitch, or I'm going to deck you" culture. A "I have to gesture in your face if I score on you" culture... etc. That's what these guys emulate.

Everyone encourages players to have "fire" and just this massive aggressiveness, to overpower your opponents by sheer will... Well, you can't just switch it off.

It's sort of like Richard Sherman. He was interviewed seconds after doing battle all afternoon with someone who he hates, and who hates him back, someone who is known for running his mouth all day. You stick a mic in front of him, and you get Richard Sherman still in combat mode. That's not surprising.

The only thing that is surprising here is that he shoved a fan, and he was probably just frustrated because his team is circling the drain and were losing again. It's just immaturity.

As this progresses I hope every part a fat-man's life (and family's) don't becomes public and exploited. I'm wondering if there are any OSU fans back in his hometown? If so this could get ugly as I'm sure they'll put "walk away" to the test. I pray his kids/grandkids are left out of this who mess.

I hope everybody shows the restraint that's due in a case like this...
