Seahawks give Sherman new deal

POSTED BY: Richard Sherman in Blog

I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension. The goal has always been to stay in Seattle and continue to play for the Seahawks. With this chapter closed, I can continue to focus on what is important – defending our Super Bowl Championship and being the best cornerback in the NFL.

This is a great moment for my family, foundations and the people who supported me to this point. Hard work and execution got me to this moment, the Seattle Seahawks have backed up that respect with this contract. The terms of my deal are 4 years for a total of $57.4M with $40M guaranteed. There is no other city or team that I would want to play football for.

Greatness is realized from countless hours of work, studying, practice, sacrifice and courage. This is just the beginning and I will continue to set the bar higher and higher on and off the field.

Much appreciation to the Seattle Seahawks franchise, the coaches, teammates, friends, the fans, my family and the 12s. The support does not go unnoticed and I carry that into each snap. From Compton to Stanford, 5th round draft pick to winning the Super Bowl – dare to be great.

You get out what you put in!

While he's a good player, you could argue if he wants a huge deal they'd be smart to walk away. With that team a ton of QB's could win, they've won with him doing nothing in a lot of games.

That's also really smart to structure all of them to where they'll get their best years then walk away.
Problem is they are going to have to pay a bunch of other guys or let them walk.

They've got a year or two they can pay the stars and fill in with young role players elsewhere. If it works they can compete for SB for a couple more years before it crashes and they have to gut and regroup. If I'm their situation, and Denver is very similar just a different mix of stars, I do the very same thing.

This here makes the most sense. They've just got a bunch of guys that get the job done. Bout that action, boss.

I want to say, prior to ET and RS getting these deals, Harvin was the only guy on their team making over $10 a year..? Someone will have to verify but I think I'm right.

People underestimate just how much Wilson does when the pressure is on.

He's not putting up big numbers, but he makes plays when plays need to be made, and that is what separates SB winning QBs from SB watching QBs.

Replacing that is far more dificult than you think it is.

Thank you, milkman. You get it. You just get it.

I'm so tired of arguing with mother****ers on this board about how good Wilson actually is..

Interesting. Without seeing the bonuses and guarantees broken down, that looks like a short-term deal. Free up cap space now and make him expendable after year 3.
