Pats Cheating Comfirmed

According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

Cheering on his favorite team with a blue "B" (for Boston) hat, at that:

The article is pretty much about scuffing them and manipulating the texture so that they don't have that "new ball slickness".

All of which is within the NFL rules. It's been that way for the past 10 years or so, it's nothing new and the NFL knows about it and allows it.

Deflation, however, is not.

As long as there has been sports, someone has been trying to or were cheating. Just the way it is and won't ever change.

There are levels of cheating that the public will accept. Pitchers want to put something on the ball, steal some public signs, watch the other teams practice, under inflate some balls. But, you bet on the game, bribe officials they will run you out of town on a rail.

They haven't released video of someone actually doing it, but they checked the balls before the game, found them all to be at the correct pressure, then checked them again at halftime, where the Colts' balls were still at the correct pressure while the Patriots' balls were all under-inflated.

Yes, Rodgers likes the balls to be over-inflated, so he has them over-inflated, then they are checked by the refs. He expressed his disappointment that the refs relieve some of the pressure, meaning that he plays with the footballs in the condition that the refs have approved. You may notice that the underlined portion of the previous sentence is exactly what Brady and the Patriots did not do.

Do we know the bolded part for certain? Also, I have yet to read that Rodgers "over-inflates" his balls. And, yes, the third grader in me still giggles a little every time.

Baseball is a poor example. When Michael Pineda got caught doctoring the ball with pine tar, he got ejected and suspended. You know, because the MLB actually punishes cheaters now instead of sweeping it under the rug like Goodell does.

I said they punished cheaters NOW. They got dragged through the mud and took a massive hit to their reputation for ignoring it in the past, and then started cleaning up their act. Meanwhile, Goodell is piling scandal on top of scandal, and his first response to everything is to try to cover it up.

Saw this part in that link:

I spoke to someone who is very familiar with the Pats practice and game-day handling of their game balls -- someone no longer a member of the organization who has no stake in the outcome of this investigation one way or another -- who was adamant that there had never been any sort of protocol about deflating balls in the rain or certain conditions.

"We would practice in the rain, Bill would throw water on dry balls during practice and there was never anything done to deflate them because of it being wet," the former Patriot said. "That doesn't even make any sense. As anal as Tom is about the balls, there's no way he'd let some ball boy or whatever try to deflate it to a certain PSI.

Or do the Krafts have to sell the team?

Inquiring minds want to know.
As far as I'm concerned, the scrutiny should last forever. Pats have been cheating since as early as 1961 and brazenly continue to do it even after they get caught. That organization already more than used up the benefit of the doubt years ago.

Interesting development:

Quote:
FURTHER REVIEW: Steelers president Art Rooney II said Wednesday he expects the competition committee to study whether the rule should change, but he thinks everyone should use the same balls. "It would seem to be simpler to have one set of balls, which was the case for many years," Rooney said. "The officials brought the balls out and everybody used the same ball, and it seems like that would be an easy answer to this."

Scuffing the ball provides friction to facilitate gripping the ball. Same difference.

No it doesn't and that wasn't the intention. Just more information on the scene. All information should be considered.
