According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

because I really enjoyed the Brady / Manning debate

and now it's not even worth it. One guy did everything the right way, the other guy spent his entire career caught up in cheating scandals and using a football that gave him a distinct competitive edge

He's averaged 9 INTs a year since 2007. Before that it was around 13.5.

I can believe that. Caught up in the moment. Maybe it's a negligible difference and just enough for the QB to throw a better ball, and handlers to keep a better grip. It's mastermind shit, but those stats and the players who've left and come back and those differences in performance is a death knell in my opinion.

That's by far the simplest and most plausible explanation I've heard yet. The Pats organization noticed that the refs are a bit lax with their pregame checks and they decided to take advantage of it. If so, good for them.
