Chiefs Here’s why you don’t start Mahomes - Page 15

First of all, our schedule is very easy from here on out. We have 6 games left with four of them being home games. As much as it pains me to say this, Alex very well could get it together and we’ll have a shot at getting some value for him. We bench him now, we won’t get shit, period. Let him pad those stats baby!!!!!

Mahomes has no chemistry with the first team players, he needs a full off-season to mesh with those guys. If he starts or sits, either way we have no chance at a Super Bowl run. This defense is atrocious. If Mahomes lays an egg (which is highly likely) it’ll just knock his confidence down. There’s no reason to risk an injury on a player when this team isn’t going anywhere with or without him playing. Last thing we need is for him to come in and get concussed. Be smart, put the beer down and calm the **** down. The remaining schedule should be a breeze for Smitty to rack up some decent stats.

Ok, yes. This is a quality rebuttal with merit to it. ...anyways, I digress...I'm not sure that next year is the year we can actually make a run at a Super Bowl. I'm of the thought process that Mahomes will need at least a full Rookie year, then in year 2, or much more likely year 3, he could get this team to that level. I think most outside of KC would hear me say that and dismiss my projection because it wasn't conservative enough. That being said, I think there's a strong argument that another 2nd RD pick would be more advantageous than Mahomes getting 6 games this season.

I'm not saying he should start but you don't think six games of experience would help a rookie prep in the off-season? On that point alone, you're wrong.

I think what you do is start giving Mahomes a few reps (or extra reps) in practice with the first team. Send a message to Smith that he is on the clock. He can't get comfortable. And, Mahomes is that much closer to being ready, if needed. DJ has accepted his new reality and everyone else is accountable. Reid is too soft on these guys.

I never said I did not want Mahomes to play this year so we could get a draft pick for Smitty. You are trying to put words into my mouth..

I've been very consistent with what I've said. I said I think Smitty has played well enough to continue to start and I showed the stats to back it up. But I also mentioned I trust Reid when it comes to making decisions about our QB. He's got a proven track record in that department.

You guys are the ones constantly whining about Mahomes starting. I could careless. If he does great, if he doesn't I'm okay with that too. It's up to Reid. Not a bunch of armchair HCs who think they know better than Reid because they are good at fantasy football.

Regardless, only an idiot would say he could careless if we get anything for Smitty. You don't just cut a QB who is putting up the numbers he is. You want to get something in return. That's a smart GM move. You never know what type of player a draft pick can land you. Pats got Brady in the 6th round.
