Chiefs updated cap

What are we looking at here? Per this tweet from Terez, we rolled over $2.6 million.

https://mobile.twitter.com/TerezPayl...02439328346112

Per OTC, we had $12,594 this year, so the rollover would still make it $2.6 million.

Here’s the money we’d save from moves we’ve made:

Alex trade-$17 million
Peters trade-$1.7 million
DJ-$0 (voided contract)
Parker cut-$4.9 million

So as of now I believe that should put us at $26.2 million (if this is not accurate let me know).

Other potential moves coming:

Tamba cut-$7.6 million
Nelson trade?-$1.9 million
Sorenson cut-$3.8 million (post June 1st)
Bailey cut-$5.9 million
Ford 5th yr option TBD-$8.7 million

That’s....a lot of money to spend. And it’s not counting the cap rise

3. Cutting the above players, ignoring the Ford option impact, results in the Chiefs having nearly $40 million of cap space. Quite alot, but need to set aside some for draft picks and mid-year flexibility. Will also need to be mindful that if Mahomes performs very well, he is going to be looking for a substantial bump and extending him next offseason might be alot cheaper than waiting for him to complete his fourth year.

But yeah, some bucks to spend it looks like.
Can’t extend a player after just 2 seasons, I think, under the CBA.

The earliest the Chiefs can extend Mahomes is 2020

I feel like we will finally be an Andy Reid team, lots of talent on offense, a lot of work to do on defense. While the defensive rebuild will take time, its nice that we will be distracted by a young QB with an amazing arm and playmaking ability. I laugh at all those pissed off fans. The next few years is going to be a lot of fun!

If Bailey and Nelson go, that's gonna be a full defense to rebuild. Damn.

Oh well.

The whole "Nelson being traded" story was from a Rappoport report. Apparently after trading for Fuller and signing Amerson the Chiefs thought about trading Nelson before deciding to trade Peters instead. Not sure they're still trying to trade Nelson now that Peters is gone. Who knows though.

Kendall Fuller plays his position on 3rd down. Nelson isn’t a true outside corner either.

Seems expendable

Not right now he doesn't. When we go nickle....who are you putting on the outside? Amerson is one side but who's on the other?

We damn well better have some cap room after firing a third of the team. We have a lot of holes to fill.

He's cheap and has shown he's versatile. Unless you can get something valuable back, keep him around.

I'm not excited about potentially having to sign some old **** off the street in week 12 again.

Right now we have: Fuller, Amerson and Nelson.

If we can get a Fuller or Melvin in FA.....then I'd be all for it. If not....then I'd bring back Mitchell and draft a CB in the 3rd round as depth. It's not ideal but it's not going to be possible to fill every hole on this defense in one offseason.
