What was the difference in the defense today/tonight?

Let's talk about it.

Mix of a lot of things, defense played better, but it also helped they got a crew that is more lax with playoff reffing generally being more lax anyway.

Hussey in his last 15 games....the home team is 13-2, he was the ref we had in the Pats game.

This. And, have they stripped it down to no frills defense? We know Sutton was trying to be the equivalent of Reid defensively with his scheme and that guys were getting lost and not competing. Is it possible they've trimmed the fat and have turned the focus to "less tricky, less flash, just get the stop"?
They've obviously had better outings over the last 2 games, so it would stand to reason that more has been done other than just changing up play calling duties.

That's the gist of it. We didn't have those backbreaking calls where the QB pushes the pass and our secondary mugs the receiver, in part because Luck didn't push the pass to force the flag and in part because our DL batted down passes before PI could become an issue.

We were tackling in the backfield lots of penetration

Penetration was always a favorite word of Lenny on the radio.

Penetration

We penetrated Andrew Lucks vagina

Hey boo, it's as simple as Lucas and Ward being faster than Parker and Scabdick.

The 4 man front is helping, too - one play vs the Colts yesterday had Houston and Ford lined up down and on the same side, and they destroyed the Oline and Andrew Suck. They lined up Speaks with his hand on the ground up front, they found match ups and exploited them.
The 4 man front allows the LBs to flow to the ball better.

The future is now.

Effort. Every player was playing every play like it was the last play they would ever be able to make. Very Polamalu/Hali like I loved seeing it.

I thought the secondary had much better technique. Very rarely do our DBs get beat badly they are usually right there but they either panic or are too slow to bat the ball away. Not this game.

Hopefully it continues and it wasn't just some fluke game because if that type of effort continues no doubt in my mind Chiefs win the SB this season.

The second half D vs the raiders felt like a whole new defense. I buy the idea that Mike Smith and Al Harris are more involved. Playing less tentative. Better matchup defense. Sure luck sucking helped but we don't need a defense turnaround. We just need them to not suck.

Yeah. It was worth burning the Seattle game to get the kids ready and get the D righted.

It REALLY helped that the Colts were forced into 3 and out 4 straight times. Kept our defense extremely fresh and kept their defense gassed.

Pretty sure the Chargers game was the last straw for Reid, and the short straw for Bob-O.

They were talking on Sirius before the game that the ref crew for this game was known for not throwing flags. We won't be so lucky next week.

I'm gonna boil it down to one guy... Sasquatch Jones

He completely negated their most dominant offensive player, Nelson... he consistently walked him back into Lucks lap, and never got blown off the line vs the run
