The Greatest Movie Franchises of All Time - Championship

Links to preceding threads:

You can view the entire tournament bracket here.

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

The “Nooooooo!” Vader part that was added in Jedi and used in Sith might be the back breaker.

Simply one of the stupidest part of any movie I will ever see.

Marvel movies were built on the foundation that Star Wars forged.

There is no MCU without Star Wars.

Therefore....Star Wars.

Having put forth my lack of qualifications...

I voted MCU for really one reason only. I think they have done an amazing job of starting with separate character story lines and over time have dove tailed them into a single over-arching story line. At the same time most of them seem to stand alone as well. I can't think of any other series of movies that has done this.

By the same token, I think the biggest strength for SW in this poll series is the impact it had, especially the first releases, on American society. It became part of us over the years which I think is part of why people were so upset with the newer releases, they just did not stand up to the impact felt with the original three.
MCU is the movie franchise for low information voters, so you did the right thing.

In the end, it makes sense to me to use the broad definition of a franchise, but obviously there are a lot of different ways we could have sliced it.
I get that. For me it just doesn't seem like a fair comparison. When you look at the franchise as a whole, I'm not sure any of them can stand up to a 20 movie extended story.

To your point. When I think of harry potter, fantastic beats doesn't even cross my mind. Same with Lord of the rings. I don't think of the Hobbit movies.

MCU.

Star Wars has The Last Jedi. That trainwreck alone eliminates Star Wars.

Star Wars: #1=crap, #2=weak, #3= the prequel trilogy finally gets decent halfway through the third movie, #4= really good, #5= maybe even better, #6= pretty freaking good, #7= OK, #8= weak. #9? It would have to be one of the greatest movies of all time to pull this franchise up to where it's as entertaining as the entire MCU. We all know that's not going to happen. And that makes me sad, to have to vote against Star Wars.

MCU for me. Even the poorly received flicks like Thor and Iron Man 2 were enjoyable for me. At their best, they're legitimately some of my favorite movies of all time.

Star Wars is culturally important, but there have been eight live-action films by now and only the original trilogy and Revenge of the Sith are good. The others range from absolute garbage to never going to bother watching again... Clone Wars is awesome, though. I'll give them that.

I'll also maintain that the lore and extended universes that have spawned from the IP are a lot better than any of the actual products put on screen.

This poll is such ****ing bullshit.

Yes, let's compare one franchise with one story about one set of characters to about twelve with origin stories for each main character and stories that have, in some cases, NOTHING to do with the other stories...but count all that together as one franchise.

It should be the entire Lucasfilm catalog against the entire MCU catalog if you're going to do this bullshit.
