What’s it take to repeat as Super Bowl champs?

It’s happened eight times in the Super Bowl era:

1.) Green Bay - Super Bowl I and II.
2.) Miami - Super Bowl VII and VIII.
3.) Pittsburgh - Super Bowl IX and X.
4.) Pittsburgh- Super Bowl XIII and XIV.
5.) San Francisco - Super Bowl XXIII and XXIV.
6.) Dallas - Super Bowl XXVII and XXVIII.
7.) Denver - Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII.
8.) New England - Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX.

What are the circumstances that contribute to a team repeating? Are we positioned to do so?

Get back to me when he starts completing 12 yard passes on 3rd & 10.

I'm not writing him off but he's proven zilch. To date his game is more like RGIII early on than not. His running game buys him time to develop so we'll see.

Houston could be a problem except that they've doubled down on their reeruned HC.
Pats are in decline. They'll be good I would imagine but it's hard to imagine them being good enough due to Brady's age.
Ben have something left? Steelers generally draft well.
Denver maybe? Lock looks promising.
Maybe Buffalo IDK. Allen is better than I thought he'd be.

*****

That's a boatload of if's all over the conference. The Chiefs have to be the prohibitive favorite. There's a much better chance the NFC produces a team capable of beating us. Injuries & complacency is the Chiefs biggest concern. They'll figure something out with Jones, tweak the interior OL, & figure something out in terms of a cheap replacement for Watkins. The draft is loaded at WR. Maybe improve LB/CB if possible.

They're very good. But if it's nut-cutting time in the playoffs, I'll take Patrick against Lamar any day of the week.

so yeah, I looked it up and basically having no salary cap until 1994, #1 through #6 can be accounted for in large part by just assemblign the best team money can buy. I remember the SF and Dallas teams specifically and thinking how unfair it was they got to just buy superbowls...keep their good players and pick from whatever superstars they wanted. The debartolos dumped wads of cash into those rings.

I was a little to young to remember the pittsburgh dynasty but with that much success I'm guessing they outspent their competition too.
-------
So really what we are talking about here is #7 & 8 - Denver and New england.....In my Mind, Denver's back-to-back appearances can be credited mainly to one guy: Terrell davis. He tore shit up...and was their key guy...broke 2000 yards the year of XXIII ...etc...jesus what a 6th round pick...LOL..terrel was a really special player for those years...I actually thought even then the days of a 2000 yard rusher might be gone...i hate the broncos but it was hard not to admire that guy..and shanahan was the brains of the operation.. I know denver had to go there a few times to get that 1st W..so experience matters a lot...

And of course NE had brady/belicheck... (jesus what a draft pick in brady)..not going into how special brady is, but he is the current GOAT until mahomes de-thrones him. Like patrick mahomes, he took his team to the AFC championships his 1st season as a starter..(but lost that game) ..... .gaining valuable experience....

So to answer your question: What does it take these days (post salary cap) to go to back-to-back super bowls?

- A special totally god-like player (check)
- Getting an absolute home run on a draft pick (check)
- Having a great coach (check)
- Playoff experience helps a lot with getting that 1st SB w (check)

We have everything...in my mind...we have absolutely everything we need...to do this multiple times...

Lamar or Watson are going to have to take huge leaps for us to not be in the SB again.

Either that or NE loading up on talent.

absolutely...Would be an extremely difficult job planning and plotting that one...and probably a big element of luck as to who is avaialble as a FA , and who can he had in later rounds drafting...

could probably add those things in on the list: salary cap management, drafting in the lower rounds, and a bit of luck LOL

**** Lamar Jackson.

That scatterarmed mushmouth couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, much less a ten yard pass to a WR on 3rd and 8...

MVP or not, he sucks. Mahomes is the true MVP, and he proved it.
