Chris Simms also had a pretty good breakdown of the play that got into how the play worked because a) that route just shouldn’t work and with a lesser QB it wouldn’t and b) he dissected how the play used the 49er scheme against itself and once Tyreek left the safety’s zone he got handed off but was then able to cut back into the same space. It’s a pretty detailed breakdown that gets into some different things than the turning point video. Will try to find it.

Montana went downfield constantly in that game in the Astrodome, Jan 1994. Hell, he would've had 450 yards and 5 TDs had Willie Davis not dropped around 150 yards worth of passes in the first half...

I just caught the Greatest Games broadcast last weekend (or was it the weekend before — this lockdown crap has me forgetting what week it is) and the Brandt/Schager rewind of it someone posted on CP. that was such a fun game. Was in Vegas surrounded by Oiler fans. The next week I missed most of the Bills game with 103 degree fever and flu. I tried to stay awake after the kickoff, woke up and saw Montana bang his head, then saw the final whistle. If I had known that would be as close as the Chiefs got to a Super Bowl for 25 years I would have tried harder to stay awake.

Zero chance Montana can make that throw.

How ****ing cool is that our basically 2nd year QB, in the biggest game of his life, while still struggling and trying to pull out of arguably two worst quarters of football he's played as a Chief - has the presence of mind to basically be the coach and call the absolute perfect ballsy play?

And not only that - to continually coach Watkins and Hill in the huddle to run it a certain way. And then to drift back way farther than the play called for, because he knew he had to, and still execute perfectly - releasing the ball like 1/10th of a second before getting hit?

That is GOAT legendary stuff they'll be talking about forever.

I watched them break the play down several times.
It's Hills responsibility to fake the Safety at the last second on which way he's running that makes the play.
