Sweeney: I think Mike Remmers wins starting LG.

Generally speaking, Pete Sweeney is a sharp dude and rarely shoots off the hip at these things. He is also pretty connected at 1 Arrowhead Drive.

Currently, he sees the competition boiling down to Remmers v. Wylie, with Remmers winning out.

Pretty interesting, if Remmers takes the job, look at these other OL we have that he got the gig over:

Andrew Wylie
Martinas Rankin
Lucas Niang
Nick Allegretti
To say nothing of two outstanding UDFA prospects in Yasir Durant and Darryl Williams, and Ryan Hunter, who has seen (horrific) snaps at guard.

I wonder what he’s seen or heard that lead him to this conclusion.

I think Sweeney was just looking for filler in his new editors show podcast. It's the first anyone has said about him playing guard that im aware of.

I'm hoping for Rankin too. But most of what I've been hearing is that Rankin likely won't be recovered from his injury in time.

I'm curious to see what if anything we get out of Nick Allegretti. I think he was our last pick in the draft and has been invisible up to this date in both any playing time, roster move or news.

Look if Remmers wins the job that's fine, but when you look at age and contract you have to think the Chiefs will give an edge to Rankin and Niang if its close.

Is my memory faulty or does Reid typically not like to play rookie offensive linemen a lot? If that is indeed the case, I'd think Niang would have to look really impressive if he started anywhere on the line this season.

Reid doesn’t like to change continuity during the season unless he absolutely has to. If Rankin wins the job.....then he’s there all season barring a complete ****ing meltdown or injury.

I believe the wild card here is Allegretti. If he can move into the starting C spot, that gives us a lot more flexibility. I'm kind of opposed to either Rankin or Niang being moved to a G simply because we need a swing OT.

Morse, Fisher, and I believe LDT were year 1 starters. So, I don't think that he has a problem starting a rookie on the line.

You guys suggesting Allegretti or Williams at C are misguided.

It’s still Reiter’s job to lose.

Remmers is a able vet. Rankins is coming off a knee injury, but played well last season before that. Might be a situation where Remmers starts the season and MR comes on later when healthy.

The good news is there will be competition for positions on the interior offensive line.

Mike Remmers, since 2015, has actually started 68 games, but mostly at right tackle.

He started for the Carolina Panthers for two seasons. He started for the Minnesota Vikings for two seasons.

Overthecap.com shows if we cut Remmers we will have $887,500 of dead money so I assume the Chiefs are kind of counting on him making the team.
