Ten Things About Tonight's Game: Week 4, KC 26 - Cheatriots 10

Ten Things About Tonight’s Game: Week 4, KC 26 - Cheatriots 10

10. This morning on the way to work I was listening to St. John on WHB. They were talking about how Jordan Ta’amu (Chiefs practice squad QB) was running the scout team this last week. And when Cam came down with the Covid, so did he! Man, talk about a method actor! Had to work a full afternoon and tore out from work right before 5pm. Got home about 5:45, threw some ground beef into the skillet; made some quick chili and popped open a cold Bob’s 47. Settled down in front of the Big Ass TV with a big ole bowl of steamy chili in one hand, a beer in the other and the remote in my teeth. All by myself because Mrs. B had to work tonight.

9. I’m a little worried about the Covid health of our team after rubbing up against the Cheatriots. Hoodie was wearing not one, but TWO masks. What does that tell you about the Pats? You think Bob Kraft has clean hands? You know his Chinese massage parlor handlers don't. Teams that have Covid creeping around shouldn’t be shaking hands after the game, especially when the Pats fly in here in two planes; one with maybe possibly infected players, and a second with probably not infected players. Hope everybody gargles with Clorox after this one. Last December when I was coming home from Boston, some jack wagon leaned his seat back into my lap and coughed without covering his mouth the whole way back to KC. Hope this is what awaits Hoodie tonight on the trip back to Logan. End to an absolutely perfect day for him. If you missed his post game presser, go check it out. Comedy gold.

8. Hoodie got some Where’s Brady Karma laid on him tonight when Patrick got called “in the grasp.” He clearly was fighting to get free and fumbled. It was a quick whistle that only superstar players get from refs. Guys like Rodgers, Five Head, and yes, Tommy Boy. It was a horrific call. But guess what? The league protects its stars. Hoodie can count it as payback for the tuck rule and every other call the Pats got during the last fifteen years. Hoyer, who looks like a penis in eye black, got first and goal twice and scored ZERO points. So, eat that Hoodie. KC’s defense was the star tonight when the offense sputtered for the majority of the first half.

7. First drive KC came out pretty well. Patrick almost threw a pick, got away with it and stalled out at drive end. Buttkicker gets a 23 yarder. Gay starts the game, Pats go three and out their first drive. Hoyer was high on most all of his passes. You could tell he was rusty. Thornhill had a nice ball hawk pick on a high pass. KC then runs four straight plays for over 10 yards each; Fisher jumps offsides, kills the drive and Buttkicker hits a 39 yarder.

6. Watkins was Patrick’s early go to guy. Gilmore made an all-pro play on him to poke the ball out and snuff a scoring drive. KC didn’t go back to Watkins most of the rest of the game. After that, the go to guy became Hardman. The second quarter is usually KC’s big scoring quarter, but Hoodie shut them out. Pats had a 100 yard rusher. They’ve won 53 out of their last 54 games when they’ve had a 100 yard rusher. Now it’s 53 out of 55. KC had no 100 yard rusher or pass receiver. Pats had four turnovers, and that was the big stat.

5. Guys who shined on D tonight were Fenton, Honey Badger, Clark and Taco. Fenton played great; had a pick and only gave up one play for the Pats last TD fade to Harry. That was just a perfectly executed play, one of the few good plays the Pats made. Honey Badger gets the tipped pick six, and Clark and Taco both brought good heat and stopped scoring drives in the first half. Extra credit to Clark for talking shit at Hoodie the whole game.

4. Tyreek Hill had a few nice moments - made a nice TD run on the jet sweep. Kelce on his birthday had one nice 45 yard catch, but was double teamed most of the evening. Looked like Hoodie just decided Kelce would not be the difference maker. CEH ran tough and does not go down easily. It was nice to have that balance on a night where nobody did anything on offense crazy good, but the group effort was enough to win. Defense chipping in the pick six was the dagger tonight. Stidham learned in a hurry this ain’t the SEC, and the Chiefs ain’t Mizzou.

3. I have a little concern about Buttkicker. Since he was the hero against the Bolts, he’s been shaky. He’s missed a couple field goals and extras. He needs to get back to basics and put his special team player of the week award in his desk drawer. Townsend punted great tonight, four punts averaged 56 yards. Hardman had a crazy scary play where a Pats punt bounced right through his wickets. Get away from the damn ball, man!

2. Gotta give Andy and Spags credit for getting a balanced team win. They won a two possession game against arguably the best NFL coach ever. Sure, they didn’t have Cam, but we didn’t have Sneed and Chris Jones. So…. well, Cam would have made this game much more interesting, but he may not have fared any better than the Hoyer/Stidham combo. Hey, we went 2-1 with Midnight Hour last year, so suck it up, Hoodie. Maybe Matt Casshole is available...

1. Chiefs have now won 13 straight games going back to last year. Andy has gotten out to a 4-0 start four years straight. So far this year, we faced and beat every other 2019 AFC division champion, one of those wins on the road. After four games we have a two game lead in the AFC West. Donks have no QB, Bolts suck and their coach is on the hot seat; Faiders have to come to Arrowhead next week. Bill O’Brien got whacked today in Houston because he has Deshaun Watson and STILL sucks! 4-0 is a beautiful thing, no matter how you slice it. So let’s keep the train rolling into October. Remember to keep your mask on, wash those hands and keep those two long yards between y’all!

So many Patriots fans are bitching about that Mahomes fumble being blown dead. As if it cost them the game or something. In reality, it cost them 30 yards. The Chiefs punted anyway. It was a touchback and a penalty gave the Patriots the ball at their own 35. If the fumble was allowed to play out, he would've been tackled at the Chiefs 35. Bad call but not that big. Certainly not as big as the weak pass interference they called on Mathieu that negated an interception and led to a touchdown. I hate having to point that out to them but I guess they're just whiny buttholes because they lost a game they were never going to win anyway....

I was teaching during most of the game. Took a peek at the break and saw 3-0 Chiefs. Took another peek before I headed home to see 6-3. When I got home it was near the end of the Pats touchdown drive. I was never worried. I watched the whole game through after it was over and felt like we were in control the whole way even though the score was close. Yes Cam would have made a huge difference for them. But I feel like we had a couple gears we weren’t using.

One last observation. During the Pats long drive that ended in Hoyer’s fumble, they showed Mahomes on the sideline: intense. He could not wait to get out there and there was no doubt that he knew KC was going to score a TD. Never have I seen anything like him in a Chiefs uniform.

One thing I love about this team is whenever the defense lets the opponent score to make it a 1 score game, Mahomes and the offense almost always respond with a score to make it a 2 possession game again. It's ****ing awesome.

Mahomes definitely fumble intercepted. One of the two. But it wasn't a game changer. It would be a different story if the Pats didn't throw 3 picks, get sacked without any timeouts before the half, and just play from behind in general.

Carr had a similar play this weekend. He kind of flipped as he was in the grasp and they called it incomplete. Looked like a fumble.

I hear you. When we have a one score lead, I expect to score on the next possession to make it a two score lead. When we have a two score lead, I expect to score on the next possession to make it a three score lead. I’m so spoiled and I love it.

I'm glad for the win, and excited for how composed the defense played. But I'm honestly a little confused by how pedestrian the offense played. And kind of sloppy. It doesn't make sense. This game had to be circled on the schedule, by everyone. But we come out and play as vanilla as I've ever seen them, on both sides of the ball. This should've been a statement game.

Okay, I know, I sound like I'm complaining. Maybe I am, and I shouldn't be. I should be celebrating the win. And I am, inside. I just don't understand why we played the way we played.

We moved the ball at will three of the first four possessions. One was stymied by Watkins fumble and the other two stalled. I agree that we were pretty vanilla at the end of the two stalled drives. I think Andy wanted to save the two scoring plays for later in the season, if he could score TDs in safe mode. He brought the secret plays out to salt away the win, but they were always there.

You're right, you're absolutely right.

I know it's irrational to feel how I feel about it.

We won, and I never thought we wouldn't. It doesn't get much better than that right? Especially against the Patriots.

Too much anticipation.

Really weird play...

First quarter Tyreek catches one over the middle and takes off, he runs toward the sideline and with room in front of him, he ducks out of bounds.

He could have another 5 yards easy and possibly more with a juke and his speed.

Seemed very uncharacteristic for Tyreek. Anyone else notice this?

Its at 12:05 in the first quarter.

Yes. I think he could have also caught the deep pass along the left sideline. He had a hammy back in September. I don’t think he fully trusts his legs, probably with good reason. He has another gear he hasn’t used all year. I’d rather he not gimp himself. It’s not worth the risk to have him sitting on the sideline on the chance of an eye-popping TD.

he had no blocking from that point and 4 guys converging with the angle. at best he gets 4 more yards at worst he is injured. In a 16 game regular season you have to pick your battles and I want Reek for the long haul.

There were 2 patriots closing towards the sideline, maybe from his view it looked completely closed off. He definitely could have gotten another 3 yards though.

Sidenote; I love how Hill is catching the ball with his hands away from his body this year instead of cradle-catching it. He must have worked on it during the offseason. Glad he continues to improve himself.

That was my thought as well. But if you look at the PATs he missed, he sweeping more horizontal than normal and is pulling his kick.

I am really impressed by Fenton and Thornhill.
