And what if they do? Play forever? All of this is such bullshit. The coin toss doesn't decide the winner. There are two sides to the game. Defense matters. How many chances should the Bill's get. 13 seconds the failed. In regulation that failed. In OT all they have to do is force an FG and they get a shot, they failed. How many chances should they get? ****ing pussies want the the rule changed.

How about making it a game stat metric like time holding the lead. If you have the lead for most of the game, especially if a team is making a comeback and gets a game tying field goal to go to OT, then why shouldn't the comeback team have to defend first. Seems as fair as any other reason that isn't luck of a coin flip. I can't think of anything in football that would equate to a jump ball and actually be somewhat fair.
I say do the OT coin toss before the game right after the Opening Kickoff coin toss while captains are still at midfield.

If the entire game is played with both teams knowing the result of the OT coin toss, then there would be so much less of this talk about how unfair and random it is for the team winning the OT coin toss and receiving the OT kickoff scoring a TD and ending the game before the other team touches ball.

What is the argument against my proposal to decide the OT coin toss winner before opening kickoff?

You could even have it where OT coin toss winner is known but does not have to decide between receiving or goal to defend until games goes to OT, in case there is extreme weather and goal to defend is possibly the preferred choice.

The game was not won on a coin toss. I distinctly remember the Reaper throwing a TD to the GOAT TE.

Leave it to the kickers. Make them both start with a 35 yard FG then move back 5yrds till someone misses.

Rock, paper, scissors would be kind of cool to see being done at midfield, but a coin toss works just as well. The people clamoring for changing the rules remind me of the little league parents complaining that their team didn’t get a trophy for finishing in second place. The beauty of sudden death is it’s all or nothing.

The Bills top rated defense had an entire game plus 7 plays in OT to make a play, and they didn’t. Changing the rules just because you lost is just plain weak.

Please change the rules.

That way when Mahomes beats Buffalo on a second possession in overtime there will be Niagara Falls worth of tears.

I think the rule should change, but not because of some whiney bitches from New York that voted against it last time.

I used to host a trivia game and Rock Paper Scissors was the tiebreaker. Drunks playing Roshambo is often hilarious.

OK, let both teams have the ball but you have to go for 2 after a TD AND eliminate 4th downs altogether in OT....10 minute clock, and if it's still tied after the one OT we get crazy.

We go to A kick. The visiting team gets to decide exactly where on the field to place the ball (70 yarder, extreme angle from the sideline, whatever)....the home team decides which team is going to kick from that spot....if it's good, the team kicking wins, if it's not the other team does. No defense on the kick, just a holder and a kicker.

I'm all for simply giving each team at least one possession in OT. After the single possession, it is sudden death. FGs can win it.

Put both offenses on opposite sides of the field starting at the 40 at the same exact time. Split screen on the TV. Jim Nantz on one side, Romo on the other. Blow whistle and first team to score TD wins

A good friend of mine is from MN. He grew up with a guy who became a comedian, and he did a few shows here back in the 90's.

He started he act off the same way every time.

"Hi my name is _____ _______ and I am from a little town in Minnesota called Tracy. If you didn't know, Minnesota is a native American word for "shitty football."

I don’t think it’s actually a quarter they use to flip. I know for local football here the refs are pretty proud of this “token” they flip for youth and high school games. And we know the Super Bowls have a special token for the coin flip. So I imagine the regular and post season games use a token and not a coin.
