Overtime changes coming?

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/n...on-per-report/

I think that would be a good idea, I am tired of the complaining that the other team never got a chance to get the ball

Much needed change. Each team should get to possess the football. This isn't defensive football from the 70s anymore. The game has evolved.

Overtime is literally perfect as it is. Of course, that means idiots will seek to change it.

defense is half of the ****ing team, I hate when people act like it's not fair that only one team got to play offense. Stop making defense so terrible to play now with your rule changes

HFA determines who gets the ball first (or technically who chooses)... it's one of the most ****ing obvious choices the league could make but no one will listen to me!

I don't really care for the "TD ends it, FG doesn't"... wouldn't mind awarding the ball/choice to the home team and sudden death from there.

No one listens, because that is a dump idea. Especially in the SB.

I still think keeping the current OT rules but just getting rid of the kick off and doing some type of bidding system would dramatically improve things without adding much down side.

A bidding system where one team offers a yard line and the other chooses whether to start offense/defense or they could take turns bidding or both put in a bid to the ref and the ones willing to start most backed up gets the ball first.

But otherwise current OT rules apply. No more whining about coin flips.

There was a shit load of whining about Mahomes not getting a chance to touch the ball.

I don't think most of CP was like 'oh yea that's fine the current OT is perfect'.

But whatever. I'm not going to drag that awful game thread up.

OT worked fine for Brady in the SB and against us and nobody said shit. It worked for us in a playoff game and now it's gotta go.

According to the KC Lab guys - the league is considering a potential new overtime twist: Same rules, but the team that scores last in regulation starts on defense. No coin flip. The thinking is this would encourage teams to go for 2 in last second scoring situations, and maybe try harder for a last second TD over game-tying FG.

I like it. Eliminate so much win equity riding on one coin-flip. Both teams know the rules. If you score last you're going to start on defense.

I really think the annoying part is just having so much chance of winning riding on a coin flip. Find a way to eliminate that.

What if it's a Field goal to tie?

Same. Last score plays defense first in OT.
