Lord I hope we don't **** around with Sneed now.

I was calling for a Ward extension last year because this always seemed like a real possibility. I have NO interest in letting Sneed get to the market after he puts it all together.

Unfortunately we can't extend him this off-season because of the 3-year rule, but the moment that dude is extension eligible I hope Veach is banging on his door and Reid's assuring him that either his brains or his signature will be on that contract...

He’s arguably Veach’s best draft pick, or at least will be the first to get to his 2nd contract. For that reason, I’m optimistic.

I think not paying Ward probably has something to do with paying Sneed down the line. He’s probably the lone guy that they’ve identified as worthy of a second contract in that group.

What about Fenton? An extension for him might be reasonable right now.

If he ends up moving outside full time and performs well, won’t his value skyrocket?

Kaiir Elam would be a damn fine replacement for Ward at 30.

Sign Za’Darius Smith or Chandler Jones.

Trade up for Sam Williams, Arnold Ebiketie, Cam Thomas, or Boye Mafe in the 2nd.

nah we'll be good, have Mahomes, Kelce, Hill and a beastly o-line. There's still the draft and more free agents to get

I'm not against signing Smith but going into the draft with a guy who has a bad back and Frank Clark is less than ideal

Probably.

Fenton still seems to be considered a pure nickel corner because of his size and relative lack of athleticism (again, for an NFL corner, not for a normal human being).

But he's a little like Jamel Dean in that regard. Dean was considered a 'nickel guy' well after he'd started spending a lot of his time out wide and performed well.

Fenton actually played most of his snaps out wide last year, IIRC. And he was more effective from the boundary than the slot - which isn't terribly surprising in the modern game since you can use the boundary as an additional defender and more and more teams are using damn good WRs in the slot.

But once you get saddled with that "Nickel" label you get written off as a sub-package guy only, even if the slot is the harder spot to play in many ways.

My concern with Fenton is durability and how he'll age. Guys like him don't gracefully age out. They just hit the wall and splat.

So if you extend him you're looking at his age 26 season as the first year of the extension. If he has the career arc of someone like, say, Orlando Scandrick, he'll be ass by 28/29 yrs old.

Now depending on how eager he is to sign, I think you absolutely approach him and try to start the dialogue. But you're gonna have to take some risks there.

Can anyone explain why Sydney Jones signed for asswipe money?

Like seriously - how do we not beat that deal? Jones isn't the lockdown guy he looked like he could be before he wrecked his knee, but he's built himself back into a really solid player who could thrive in this system.

If we weren't going to retain Ward, how the hell were we not in on Jones?

Probably injury history.

I don’t know though. I’m still holding out hope for Gladney at this point.
