Not really. The point of a playoff game is that it is in reality the same as every other game. It’s just the added pressure.

Either change the rules for every game or none in my opinion.

So both teams score and just kick the FG, your in the same boat as before. Except now the players will have to play even longer when they are totally gassed after each had a possession.

My ideal scenario for the 1st game for this new rule would be a re-match between the Chiefs and Bills in the playoffs. Bills get the ball first. Drive down and score a TD. Old rule they win right there. Kicker misses the extra point wide right. Chiefs drive down. Maybe even for drama convert a 4th and 5. Score the TD and Butker kicks the game winner leaving the Bills players and fans with what they wanted. Both teams having the ball.

A little karma for voting no when the Chiefs brought this up 3 years ago.

From then on I don't really care.

NFL is stupid. Winning the coin toss is still just as important. Now you defer and then you will know what you need to do to win giving you an advantage that's better than before. It's still the same. The best way to secure victory is don't give up a TD. They have changed really nothing except they made a 2 point conversion very deadly.

Not quite.

No team is likely going to play for a 2nd possession (if there would even be enough time left, which coincidently brings up a question on what happens if the first team goes on a 10 minute drive) so you're right that the 2nd team to have the ball is at an advantage.

But, if your defense just got off the field and has been gassed, you would have to at least think about taking the ball first.

I figured this would happen... there was so much desire to see more of that KC/BUF game that I expected a change. That's happened what, twice maybe three times in the playoffs with the new rule?

It was Tebow's one shining moment for sure.

Still feel like they should have left it like it was, but added first possession in OT as an option to pick from when you win the initial coin toss at the beginning of the game. You can choose to defer to receive the 2nd half kickoff or choose to get the ball first in OT (or still pick the direction you want to kick, if you're so inclined).

It adds a little more strategy to the choices made at the start of the game and could change how a team plays out the end of the game too. Both teams would know who was going to get the ball first in OT, so that might affect whether you press for that TD or maybe even go for two.

The rule has been changed and every playoff game will kick off with both teams knowing that the rule has been changed.

The rule makes losing a random coin toss less impactful than it was before the rule change.

So the winner of a random ****in' coin-toss has the advantage of winning the coin toss diminished a little bit and would have to play defense in playoff overtime.

So the assholes who say, "All you have to do is play defense", are mad about what? The OT coin toss winner in the postseason now has to play some defense?

Anybody crying about this rule change needs to look in the mirror and ponder what went wrong.

Didn't matter when the Patriots beat the Chiefs...

Did matter when the Chiefs beat the Bills...

Make the overtime a full 15 minute period. If the score is still tied, play another full period. Or perhaps a best of 5 rock/paper/scissors...

No matter what they do, someone will be unhappy about it.

I honesty don't care if they change it or not.

It's the circumstances behind it. Like crazykirk said, when the Patriots benefitted, nobody cared. Now all of a sudden it's a problem? **** that.

I remember watching that play. Tebow must have had the slowest release time for a QB in NFL history. He looked like he was in slow motion.
