How about we let Brown walk, take the #3 comp pick, and sign Yosh Nijman, RFA from Green Bay for an average starting LT deal? Green Bay cannot cut Bahktiari, nor would they want to if he's back healthy, and they can't pay two LT's.

And then we can just get on with our lives.

I'm a bit fuzzy on the RFA stuff, but I dont' think that would even be an option with what GB could do.

They have to match to keep him, as I understand it.

With what they're paying Bahktiari, that would mean a pretty huge chunk of their cap if they paid both.

I don't know for sure what it would take, but I would imagine that a league average starting LT contract would be too rich for their blood at one position.

I've watched a handful of GB games with Nijman at LT. He's not Willie Roaf, but he's just fine. Totally decent. Not a turnstyle. I'd say an average to above average LT. Kind of reminds me of Fisher in his style of play.

The reports I've read on him indicate about the same, most are impressed that he's played as well as he has, considering he was an UDFA. Excellent length, they helped him with chips early on, but he's been mostly on an island since the last half of last season. He's sort of their Prince Wanegho, but pressed into service, has played well.

GB isn’t stupid. They’ll slap the first rd tender on that guy…and idk about you but I’m not giving the Packers a 1st rd pick for that

no, but I might offer that comp #3 or a #4 for him.

As an UDFA, they can keep him one more year and get nothing, or they can deal.

Nobody's going to give a #1.

He's their #3 OT, they like Kelly at RT.

I don't believe that's how that works.

I'm pretty sure you can negotiate with the team that holds the players' rights.

I could be wrong.

But that's how I understand it.

So they could hold on to him, but he'd certainly leave in '24 for a chance to start somewhere. And as an UDFA I don't think they'd get anything much for him, expecially if he doesn't play at all in '23.

Or they could pick up a mid round pick and let him go.

That seems like a good move for them.

I'd guess they'd hold on to him with teh situation with Bahktiari being what it is and not wanting to leave themselves vulnerable.

Maybe, but moving Kelly from RT to LT was their second preference. Then he got hurt too, and so they played Nijman.

Now everyone's coming back healthy.

So it's not likely unless Bahktiari is unable to finish the season that Nijman will play.

You guys could be right, maybe they will just hold on to him one more year, but I don't think the comp for him leaving after '23 would be nearly as high as this offseason.
