Is Chiefsplanet seriously going to outlive Twitter?

This might be destined for DC, but for some reason this will feel like a major achievement on this website if that happens.

Forums like this have taken a huge hit with social media. Out of the Tech, Life, Music, Baseball and Nintendo forums I was a part of in high school, it's amazing that this is the place that not only survived, but it still thriving (while outliving and far suprassing the Chargers, Raiders, and Bronco forum equivalents).

It's a common refrain that you've probably heard at some point or another "10% of people do 90% of the work." That's what that tight 2 week deadline for Twitter Blue was for; he was perfectly aware that it was an unrealistic time frame. It was a test.

Hence, Elon was looking for the whales at the company. The heavy hitting, actually producing and hard people who have been there for a while. When the whales don't have to carry dead weight, they perform like the equivalent of 10 people.

So by culling unproductive staff, he actually untied the hands of the PRODUCTIVE staff. Fewer obstacles to getting in the way of getting things done. It also revealed to him who was there to make Twitter a better product, versus who was there to be 'activists'.

Because the productive people actually know WHAT THEY NEED to get things done. Don't be surprised if the people that are left get to be part of the interviewing process for the new people. They'll be looking for efficiency and people who don't make THEIR jobs more difficult.

I'm a big fan of Elon. But I'm pretty skeptical that this is going to work out. Tesla and SpaceX have the advantage of attracting people who are willing to work 80-100 hours a week because they're doing revolutionary things that can change the world but don't necessarily make a ton of money.

Twitter, on the other hand, built its culture on being a great employer, and I don't really know what grand plan they're building toward that will want people to give up their entire lives and take lower salaries to make it work.

Despite the layoffs you hear about, there are something like 4 million software engineering jobs out there, so there just really aren't significant barriers to people going elsewhere.

So who knows - maybe he'll manage to find enough "hardcore" people to keep it afloat. I'm just not sure what the motivation would be for someone to put themselves through that kind of misery.

He has not built tech and has no experience with content moderation. The guy who owned the platform couldn’t even figure out how to make money and continuously struggled to even make the app work. Google couldn’t figure out how to make a competing technology. just because he’s a genius in one area doesn’t mean he’s a genius in another.

All good points, and I'm definitely not saying the guy will ultimately succeed with Twitter. I really have no idea what the intricacies are with a social media company and it's innerworkings, and it certainly doesn't seem to be in his wheelhouse, but it's obviously way too soon to judge what he's trying to do. I can't imagine he went into this without a plan and without a lot of advice from people with knowledge of how to run such a platform.

Should be very interesting to say the least. I've never been a Twitter user so I don't really have a dog in the fight, but I'd put my money on him based on all his success in every other venture he's pursued.

I think you're definitely correct he wanted to get out of it, and maybe at this point he honestly doesn't care if it fails, and dare I say he secretly wants it to?
