Mahomes doesn’t need a top 5 Wr. But a mid tier WR1 would make a huge difference. And much as I like juju that is not the role he was meant to play.
No, why would you pay 20 plus million to a mid tier guy? Look at the teams paying these WR"s. They all have 1 thing in common.

Dj moore or terry mclaurin would make this offense way more dangerous than an elite right tackle. Don’t know how that’s even up for debate. An upgrade to a solid RT with a mid tier but true WR1 is way more dangerous than an elite RT and a bunch of WR2s.

Even better because this WR allows you to cut Mvs and save a bunch of money. Any move that takes snaps away from Mvs and Watson is a plus.

And nobody has addressed what this offense looks like when kelce inevitably starts to slow. We will start needing to lean on him less and less.

So you want to trade what would likely take a 1st or 2nd round pick to get one of these WR's, then pay them what theyre making.

Mahomes is the force multiplier in the offense. Give him better tackles and let him make some of these "#2's" into production.

When you have a committee WR core matched with an elite QB it works better.

If one goes down it's plug and play. Nobody is bitching about low targets, one guy can't be gameplanned out by the defense, pay gets spread out so that it's not a horrifying cap hit for a guy that gets injured.

Chiefs are doing it right.

Because it's not an unlimited resource game. It's a shell game. Money spent is money away from potentially spending.

You want to dominate the trenches. That is going to be way more expensive.

By your logic why couldn’t you use the draft to find a RT. Why couldn’t you find a good enough RT instead of the turnstile we have out there now? You’re plenty comfortable throwing lots of money at two tackles. I get that we can’t suck at certain positions like these. But I find it bizarre that we are so comfortable throwing all our money and resources at positions like this where solid would probably suffice but think it’s out of bounds to throw it at a player who mahomes can use as a weapon.

The WR pay has exploded, where as the RT hasn't.

It's why teams have gobbled up WR's early in the draft recently.

Yeah, I'd prefer to keep the QB upright and let my HOF HC develop WR's like he's always done in his coaching career.

The only way the Chiefs are gonna get a true WR1 is either through the draft, having to get lucky since we always pick so late.

OR trade for one thats on a reasonable salary for a few years, like DeAndre Hopkins.

So would you trade our 1st for Hopkins then let Juju and Hardman walk? We would be top heavy for sure and guys like Watson or some low pick might be seeing the field.
Hopkins
Moore
Toney (when healthy)

I disagree. Mahomes is good enough to carry a lesser WR1. But we don’t have that. We have speed guys with no size. Size guy like juju with no speed. We need a multidimensional WR as WR1. He doesn’t have to be the cream of the crop. Hell most teams WR2s could easily be our WR1.

At some point that dam will have to bust. The bengals can’t afford to keep Tee and chase. Are the lions really going to keep Jameson AND Amon at brown? Can the chargers afford Williams and Keenan Allen once Herbert gets paid? What about the broncos and jeudy and Sutton?

We can vulture off the bottom. We aren’t desperate to have an elite WR1 carry a bad qb. But we just need a guy who can consistently and reliably match up vs the opponents top DB.

But man let’s all hope justyn Ross makes it easy for us and can actually stay healthy.

You don’t need an elite RT to keep mahomes upright. The position is cheap because it’s way easier to fix in the draft. And Reid has a way way better history developing OL than WRs. In fact his history with WRs isn’t great. That’s why umpteen years later and the only drafted WR worth a damn for us is tyreek, who we got on a character issue technicality.

Andy has consistently gotten production out of alot of warm bodies at WR.

Going and paying #2s like elite players is what will get you in trouble. The Chiefs are paying the QB salary, they can't afford to get wild like that.

Paying a WR2 to be a low end WR1 is not irresponsible. And there are plenty of WR2s who are plenty capable of being a WR1 if not in a loaded offense. Guys like tee Higgins, mike Williams, Godwin, courtland Sutton are plenty good. Hell if you want to go even cheaper a Tyler Boyd or Corey Davis are more than sufficient. You can’t tell me those moves don’t make a huge upgrade to our WR room. But we can’t have pure slot WRs or WR2s lining up against CB1s. Get a WR1 and you have way more luxury to fill in the rest with warm bodies. I love juju but he isn’t WR1. Sadly. Despite what the market looks like the WR market is going to get way more crowded than you think. Several QBs getting huge contracts, several getting the wrecking ball this year.

That is simply insane to have the best qb in the world and demanding he carry a bunch of warm body WRs. And yeah, Reid has not been particularly great at drafting high on WR1s. For every desean and tyreek you have a million FredExes and mecoles.

I’m talking 1 WR. You’re talking about two trenches with 9 players.
