Mecole Hardman

It seems like the offense has been a lot less dynamic without Hardman. He might be the spark needed going into the playoffs.

I know the accepted narrative here is one that treats Hardman as some sort of JAG. But I really like his freakish athleticism, his playmaking ability, and his unselfishness. He’s still really young and has acted like a kid at times, but I’ve got this nagging feeling that if the light ever comes on he’s gonna be special.

He’s made some really great plays and I love the way he runs in traffic. He doesn’t shift gears. It’s like he’s in variable glide mode.

People act like it was the chiefs plan to roll with this WR corps. the chiefs brought in juju not to be WR1 but to play off Tyreek. And you're kidding yourself if you don't think that would have been a nightmare for defenses.

And every indication is that the chiefs wanted to aggressively court a WR1. They were seriously pursuing obj and DJ Moore. They were strongly looking at guys like Dotson and Jameson Williams and it sounds like they would have considered a trade up. They've shown they're not going to get desperate including with Tyreek which I agree with and respect. But i don't buy for a second that this WR corps comes even close to what Andy and veach would like this to be.

What evidence do you have that the Chiefs were seriously pursuing DJ Moore and OBJ? Kicking the tires, sure, but aggressively pursuing?

I’m sure the WR corp isn’t where they want it to be, but I’m very sure they’re happy with the offensive output. And that just might tell them that there’s another way to build the team.

There’s no evidence of it

But I have no problem with looking for a high end wr. But get one in the draft. Don’t go overpay one.

Sure, they're not flinging picks and money at these guys recklessly. Which is ultimately why they wouldn't do it. But the idea that the chiefs didn't sign a WR1 therefore it wasn't a priority is BS. They wanted Tyreek and probably had him until Miami swooped in with a hail Mary.

There is enough smoke that the interest continued in the draft. There was genuine interest in guys like Dotson and Jameson Williams. Theres enough smoke to suggest they were sincerely asking about obj and DJ moore. WR and pass rusher are the 2 positions we kept hearing about. In both instances they chose not to overbid.

I'm very good with it. I'm good with moving on from Tyreek and not trading the moon for DJ Moore. I actually feel like after we moved on from Tyreek this was supposed to be a competitive rebuild year. So yeah I think they're more than happy. But being happy isnt the same as being content. maybe their priorities have changed but their continued interest in the WR shows they likely aren't done with it

Also, Andy Reid is notoriosuly against plug and play WRs. He wants continuity so his WRs can really understand the offense. Immediately after trading Tyreek we signed mvs to a short term "cut me" contract. We traded for a WR we probably won't keep past next season. This doesn't read like a long term commitment to this strategy. Unless anyone thinks Reids past forward is constantly churning WRs year after year. At some point he's gonna make commitments. They are just being patient with it. Same damn reason we signed Dunlap.

I wonder if they'll take the $4M cap hit to cut MVS this off season. Unless he goes off in the post season, I don't see why keep him.

Having interest in improving at WR and having the competence to do so are two entirely different things. Aside from taking a long shot on a freak of nature in the 5th round this franchise under Reid and Dorsey/Veach has shown in the pst decade that the ceiling for WRs they scout is Mecole Hardman. I have no doubt they’d love to find a star WR, but I do doubt their capability of finding one considering their consistent history of taking the wrong guys there. I’d rather them focus on building out the defense into a top unit (finally) over taking another nobody like Skyy Moore.

No, we need to burn a ****ing timeout, call some double reverse fake fleaflicker reeruned shit that does nothing but waste a down and possibly loses yards.

We are TREMENDOUSLY SHIT at 3rd and 1. Not just redzone, bit anywhere on the field. Andy and Co simply cannot fathom how to move the football one yard, while being the best in football at 3rd and forever.

Mecole Hardman isn't some savior riding in like a knight in shining armor to save the offense.

The guy has had nearly a half decade for the light to come on, and it's flickering at best.
We are so bad on 3rd and 1 simply for two reasons.

1. We dont QB sneak
2. For some reason we don't run under center very often. I can't really think of any reason ever to not run under center on 2nd and 1 or 3rd and 1. These are possible huge, huge chunk plays WHEN you do choose play action. And you can quick snap or QB sneak often as well to get the 1st down.

Its always been baffling.

The more I’ve thought about it, I definitely would be on board with drafting a wr high.
I just don’t want to “pay” for a #1 who isn’t a true #1.

DJ moore would have been a good target to trade for because he’s under contract for a few years

Veach seems to follow Dorsey's approach of finding these stopgaps. Overpay them so they'll accept a short term contract that makes them easy to cut. Dorsey did it with guys like devito and fasano. Veach has done it with guys like breeland and Damien Wilson. And I suspect Dunlap and mvs. Bc I agree, while we lose $4m we gain $7 back which is substantial.

But to his credit we gotta find a deep threat. Maybe we use those savings to keep hardman. But this is also a spot where you can find a one dimensional speed guy in the draft. Just make sure the guy can actually catch the ball.

I think we both agree that justyn Ross having a huge camp would make both sides of the debate and solve a lot of our problems.

Maybe I'm over-optimistic but I suspect the WR market will be way better than others think. The league is so loaded with talent that WR2s are playing like WR1s. And teams will soon have to decide if they want to pay both. Several teams (Tampa, AZ, Indy, carolina) could go into full rebuild. Several have expensive QB contracts coming where they can't possibly afford multiple WR1s (Cincy, SD, den, Phi). We're not talking about just trades. We're talking cuts to really good WRs. If you stripped labels, do you really think Tee Higgins or Godwin or Mike Williams or devonta smith wouldn't be a WR1? Hell, burrow is so goddamn lucky his WR3 actually played really well as a WR1 earlier in his career.

I think people forget that when Andy made his name in Philly, it was with a TON of passes to the backs in the flats.

I see this season-especially the second half, as more of a return to form for an Andy Reid offense.
