Bills/ Bengals [cancelled - process in OP]

In case anyone needs it spelled out, we would play at a neutral site if the AFCCG ends up being Chiefs vs. Bills. All other scenarios abide by the usual rules (so any other game the Chiefs play will be at home).

This is getting ridiculous at this point.

EVERYONE agrees that suspending the game was the right call at the time.

EVERYONE agrees that Damars life was more important than finishing the game and that the players that were in the game were shocked at what they witnessed. Understandably, they were going to need to collect themselves.

Bengals agreed to this but I would imagine they figured the game would still be played in the coming days. There is no reason they should have to accept a tie or a no contest.

Buffalo decided that they we not going to play the game this week, Flew home that night making that impossible. Understandable but that has consequences.

At some point we have to take emotions and feelings out of the equation and make a call. The Bills unfortunately will need to accept the Loss. Yes it is a shitty way to lose but it is what it is.

This is the ONLY way to handle this awful situation that would maintain the integrity of the league and playoffs.

NONE of this means that we all dont feel for Damar, his family, the Bills, every NFL player. It was tragic, EVERYONE wishes a full recovery to this young man.

Bills forfeit, problem solved. No need to reinvent the playoffs or set a new precedent.

We hope and pray for Damar to have a full recovery and a happy life!

If the Bills decided not to play but Cincy agreed to play later in the same week, that is most certainly a forfeit. Question is did Cincy clearly state they wanted to resume play during the same week? If so, when, where, and with whom? All of that has been lost in the ever growing virtue signaling, which is frankly pissing me off (goddamn narcissists everywhere these days).

Based on the press conference today, that appears to be false. The league made the call to send them to the locker room. Technically this doesn't refute the possibility of the teams refusing to come out afterward, but the strong implication is that it was the league's call.

Talked with papasmurf about this over my lunch hour today. He says games go on this weekend as scheduled. Buffalo and Cinci have that game nixed. That gives them 16 games. If Buffalo and KC win week this week, we have the 1 seed by a half a game. If we lose and they win, they get the 1 seed by a half a game. Pretty much same with Cinci/Baltimore regarding 3 seed or WC.

There's precedent for holding teams to their decisions. Read this interesting article about the 1932 NFL Championship Game, which the two teams decided to play indoors on a modified hockey rink.

https://ninetynineyards.com/2020/04/...e-games-1930s/

Seriously, read the article because it's great. The teams modified a bunch of rules to account for a small field, and when it was over the losing team (Portsmouth Spartans) was unhappy with the outcome. Here was the response.

NFL president Joe Carr was having none of it. He was quoted as saying, “You fellows decided to play for the championship in the Stadium. You knew in advance the field was small. You should have known that the smallness of the so-called Stadium gridiron would preclude real football and prevent both sides from executing many of the plays at your command. But since you announced that the championship would hinge on the indoor game, the Bears must be declared champions of our league… You made your bed and now you must lie in it, so there can be no more games between the Bears and Spartans this year which will count in the league standing.”

Roger Goodell needs to take a play from the Joe Carr playbook. The Bills pulled their team off the field. They made their bed and now they must lie in it.

This in increasingly seems like the most likely scenario.

May as well start embracing the "everyone is against us" mentality when the villainous Chiefs are awarded the 1 seed over the two teams everyone has a soft spot for now.

Bills were about to get bent over in that game. It shouldn’t be a no contest. Either finish the game or take the L.

I dont believe it was necessary for the Bengals to clearly state those intentions as the whole world would assume the game would be resumed in the coming days. Certainly before the next week started.

Still believe the game should be cancelled and treated as a cancelled game but would prefer if the game was finished. I personally like the idea floated on PFT:

1. Wait to see if the game even matters.
2. Finish the game opposite the NFC Wild Card
3. AFC Wild Card happens while NFC Wild Card winners wait a week
4. Division round happens
5. Championship round happens
6. Play Super Bowl but without the one week break

Not sure how feasible that is but it would get the game in without disrupting a whole lot (although the one seed would have three weeks between games which is concerning for different reasons).

What you can’t do is start letter coin flips and random number generators put a team with a better winning record under teams that have worse winning records because it “feels right” to do so.
