Bills/ Bengals [cancelled - process in OP]

In case anyone needs it spelled out, we would play at a neutral site if the AFCCG ends up being Chiefs vs. Bills. All other scenarios abide by the usual rules (so any other game the Chiefs play will be at home).

Seriously, read the article because it's great. The teams modified a bunch of rules to account for a small field, and when it was over the losing team (Portsmouth Spartans) was unhappy with the outcome. Here was the response.

NFL president Joe Carr was having none of it. He was quoted as saying, “You fellows decided to play for the championship in the Stadium. You knew in advance the field was small. You should have known that the smallness of the so-called Stadium gridiron would preclude real football and prevent both sides from executing many of the plays at your command. But since you announced that the championship would hinge on the indoor game, the Bears must be declared champions of our league… You made your bed and now you must lie in it, so there can be no more games between the Bears and Spartans this year which will count in the league standing.”

Roger Goodell needs to take a play from the Joe Carr playbook. The Bills pulled their team off the field. They made their bed and now they must lie in it.
Agreed, but Joe Carr didn’t have to deal with the Twitter mob. Goodell does and will probably cave.

Yes absolutely they would. Its a tough decision and we dont have a tough Commissioner willing to make those decisions.

I think Buffalo could gain a ton of respect by accepting the forfeit. Come out with a statement, "We decided that Damars life was more important than one game and are showing that by taking the forfeit." BOOM! Most loved team in the playoffs.

Honestly, them taking the loss is the only way forward without affecting other teams. Either the league decides for them or they step up and do it themselves.

This lets the Commish off the hook, saves face and the Bills look great. I wouldnt be surprised if the league suggests this to the Bills.

I get watching it was shocking and frankly I don't think they should have finished the game that night, but this has gotten ridiculous. There was plenty of time to make the game up this week.

This isn't some dude who broke his leg or a guy who died in his hotel room, this was a routine tackle that happens 100 times a game and his heart stopped. He didn't make a mistake. It wasn't some fluke. It was something these guys are going to have to go out and do 100 more times this weekend. People are seriously, seriously underestimating that factor into all this. On here, on TV, on Twitter. This was a truly shocking play because of how routine it was.

Things will get back to normal but I'd bet money everyone on every team is going to feel weird stepping back out there this weekend. I wouldn't be shocked if some guys have a real hard time with contact this weekend. It's going to take a minute to get back in that routine where you're not thinking about that play and the game becomes natural again. Doesn't matter how old they are.

I read it as basically saying Goodell can do whatever he wants in the matter, including terminating the game if he sees fit to do so.

I'm sure he's talking to all the stakeholders including the teams, owners, and the NFLPA and getting their input, but it's going to be his call.

You can try to jump through semantic hoops to classify a single player's tragic injury as an "emergency" if you want, but doubt that'll hold up under scrutiny. Esp w/ the NFL owners and Player Association.
In other words, that is a facile argument.

LOL. Okay, dude. Guess who determines what constitutes an "emergency"? I'll give you one guess and his initials are R.G.

There's absolutely no argument to be made that terminating this game wouldn't significantly affect 'inter-team competitive issues'. None. That may very well be why this has evolved into such a cluster****. Because they can't actually terminate the game based on that rule.

If you made it all the way to the NFL without ever seeing a serious injury on the football field then you have to be a Unicorn.

Charter airlines don't let their planes sit around, so even getting the Bills back there could be a challenge.

I'm not saying it's impossible, and I certainly think it could happen with a few days to work it out. But you act like every single aspect of this is as clear as day and it should have been no big deal to play the game the next day. It takes a LOT of work to put on a sports event.
Also, talk about a strawman!

Why do you ****ing morons keep pretending that we're saying this game HAD to be played the very next day.

Absolutely nobody is saying this.

It could've been played Tues, Wed, or Thur. Take your ****ing pick.

Plural. That means Goodell requires consensus. Gee, I wonder with whom? His mirror?
