Bills/ Bengals [cancelled - process in OP]

In case anyone needs it spelled out, we would play at a neutral site if the AFCCG ends up being Chiefs vs. Bills. All other scenarios abide by the usual rules (so any other game the Chiefs play will be at home).

Breaking News: Of course the game is secondary to #DamarHamlin’s health, but #Bills insider @viccarucci just reported on @wgrz Daybreak that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will make the call on rescheduling the Bills/Bengals game and it would have to be played within 2 days.

After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week.

The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date.

I don't think Buffalo should be given the option to forfeit this weekend, they would effectively have 2 weeks off to heal and get fresh and game plan for the playoffs. They would also only have to play 15 games and would have an advantage on the injury front. That's bullshit.

yes.

But you cannot have a 7 team playoff field advance a round without a team getting a bye. The math doesn't check out.

So yeah, you could shut down the league for a week, play ONE game, then start the playoffs a week late with your 'normal' seeds based on every team playing a 17 game schedule, then eliminate the SB bye and get things back on track by 2/19.

AFC playoff teams get bye

Bills beat Bengals = Bills 1, Chiefs 2, Bengals 3?

Week 20
NFC playoff teams get bye
All AFC playoff teams play except #1 seed

The bills didn't want to continue playing nor reschedule in a timely manner. That's fine. It's a forfeit. Teams do honorable things like this all the time. I remember a college team taking a delay of game in their first punt in remembrance of their punter that had died.

Bengals could be honorable and just say we'll take a draw. They don't have to and I don't think they should but it's an option. Life moves on. League moves forward.

Yeah, I don't have the right answers, but there's never going to be clear cut moment for the NFL and the Bills to say everything is fine and dandy, so let's play football again.... I get waiting 24 hours and maybe there are too many considering for even playing tomorrow night, but do something instead of what seems like nothing more than waiting for that moment to come.

Mmmm. Yeah that makes sense chronologically.

I guess the reason would be to actually play the game, instead of having the NFL deciding who wins/takes a forfeit or whatever. Playing the game keeps the league out of it, and the teams get to determine the outcome. Which I’d think would be the best way to handle it?

This was the idea I liked most. Make them play the games to determine who ends up where.

This is clearly too traumatic to deal with. The trauma they experienced doesn't just heal in a matter of days or weeks.

Right? Playoffs are different though……..probably. They will mentally be ready to go then, and even more ready if they get to play all their playoff games at home in front of their fans……….for Hamlin who would want them to play. Because by then the show must go on. Not before if preventable because grief and stuff.
