In case anyone needs it spelled out, we would play at a neutral site if the AFCCG ends up being Chiefs vs. Bills. All other scenarios abide by the usual rules (so any other game the Chiefs play will be at home).

The NFL is scared shitless of being perceived as “punishing” Buffalo for not finishing the game.

I've seen a comment about "being flexible like they did with Covid"... uh, this isn't anything like this. This is a relatively easy thing to prepare for years in advance and work through different scenarios in order to prepare for most of it (outside of maybe waiting to see if Hamlin is okay).

Changing the entire format of the playoffs at this point seems pretty damn ridiculous.

Zero excuse for not having a policy in place for this.

And for all the talk Cincy is getting hosed in all this, maybe just maybe they should have pushed harder to play the game this week rather than rolling over for Buffalo and letting them decide the course of action. Should have forced their hand so I dont feel bad for them.

Since the NFL decided to go down this path, there were far worse options.

Only Buffalo can force a neutral site if we win Saturday and go on to the AFC Championship.

If they do tip your hat and beat them wherever.

Could be, but even if it is, I don't know why the NFL would really care... they're a billion dollar corporation that's never really given a shit in the past. Players have been paralyzed on the field, continued play. Dude in 1971 died on the field, continued play. Refs completely botch games, meh, let that guy ref the Super Bowl.

They could have been sensitive to the specific situation while still at least loosely following published guidelines (and if they're following private guidelines, I'd love to know WTF those are at this point).... it doesn't have to be a cold "continue tonight or else forfeit", but something between that and "it's fine, we'll figure it out in several days and just reformat the entire playoffs".

Buffalo and Cincy have played the same number of games so the thought is their records would make it fair to decide where they play.

The only reason they are talking about neutral sight is if KC plays a team that played fewer games than them. If KC plays anyone else who played all 17 they play in KC.

Why is Ford Field in Detroit not available for a possible neutral site AFC Championship game? I'm told in mid-January they have a previously planned change-out of their turf. At best, they're the 7-seed and can't host anyway. So they'll use the time to improve their field.

This is my only gripe; If the Chiefs/Bills game is to be played on a neutral site the the Bengals/Bills game should DEFINITLY be held on a neutral site. This decision takes the home field advantage away from the Bills two main rivals. The Bengals especially are getting screwed. Bills were getting thrashed by the Bengals - Bills refuse to finish the game - Replay the game two weeks later in Buffalo. Buffalo steals home field advantage from the Bengals.

The part I think I'm most confused about is that I kinda sorta wanted to believe that they really didn't have a rule for what happens when teams play a different number of games. While I think seeding by win percentage is the obvious way to handle it, I figured, sure, they need to discuss it at least.

But it turns out they've had this exact scenario covered in the rules for the past 20 years, but now they want to change it at the last second because they feel sorry for the Bills?

Yeah, that's a lot of bullshit.

How is BUFFALO getting screwed? This was all done to benefit them and make it 'fair' for them.

If anyone got really screwed out of this deal, it's the Bengals.

As far as KC goes, once they win on Saturday, they are going to become the first #1 seed to NOT get both the bye and HFA (assuming the Buffalo Snowflakes beat NE).

So how exactly does this scenario benefit KC??
