A Level Headed Review Week 3 2023

1. Montrell Washington - This was a great pickup from the Broncos, originally a 6th round pick in the 2022 draft. I felt much more comfortable with him back taking PR/KR. The second quarter PR where he got hit by his own team mate and then took what seemed like 5 more hits before going down was nerve wracking but he managed to handle it well. He seems to have the ability to get more than just a couple positive yards on punts. We may have very well seen the last of Richie James.

2. Pop Pacheco - was gouging the defense. He is really starting to become the complete back with catching out of the backfield and finding the gaps to hit. Side note CEH is starting to run the ball decently, especially in garbage time, and is still a nice threat to catch out of the backfield.

3. McKinnon - is picking back up where he left off last year with being that red zone relief valve. Good to see he is still has the knack to find the end zone, I feel like he will be a incredibly valuable target for Patrick again this year, if not the teams second leading receiver behind Kelce.

4. Chiefs D - is continuing to get better and better. Turnovers, McDuffie stripping the ball, Gay recovering and Reid tipping the ball for Edwards to pick were both things of beauty. The Chiefs have the youngest D in the league average of 24 years old. That is astonishing. Chris Jones with some big sacks, glad he is back, he is going to be the motor that really powers this defense to great things. Mike Danna's name was called quite a bit today. Glad to see he is starting to be the force we need him to be with a sack and QB hit.

5. Pushing the ball up the field with under a minute in the first half up 31-0. I'm not sure I agree with this. Especially needlessly putting Patrick in harms way. I understand stepping on throats, but Chicago appeared all but dead at that point in the game. Even if they take the opening kickoff and get 7 they are still 4 scores down.

6. Rice - Patrick seems to be getting more comfortable with him hitting him a couple times over the middle and getting just 1 yard shy of a TD each time.

7. The Jawaan Taylor penalties are maddening. I noticed FOX didn't have the "down the line" camera view available for his penalties. They are really going to try and make an example of him while not calling anyone else for it. It's funny how it didn't pop up until the 2nd quarter almost like someone sent a message to the Ref crew to "remember" this penalty. Fortunately for this game it doesn't matter but if it continues it's going to bite us eventually. PTW started the second half while Taylor walked the sideline and was in at RT until Smith went down at LT. The commentators mentioned that Taylor isn't being coached to line up like that so it's a self adjustment he will need to make.

8. Butker - after struggles last year he seems to have figured it out and I feel much more comfortable seeing those XP's and FG's splitting the uprights instead of angling one way or the other. The 41 yard field goal was just 100% money split the uprights. Speaking of uprights the nailing of the goal post on the kickoff was one of the coolest things - never seen that before, I have seen the crossbar get hit but it takes talent to hit the upright on a kickoff.

9. PTW - got smoked by the DE on the Gabbert INT. He seems to play the RT position very well but he looked foolish on the left side when Smith went out. Hard to tell if the INT was on Gabbert bad read or PTW getting smoked.

10. The Offensive line in front of Patrick, kept him clean today. No sacks.

11. Andy Reid passes Tom Landry to go to 4th all time in wins with todays victory.

With Taylor I think it’s not overly fair but his hand trigger motions lol very exaggerated and create th extra impression of early movement.

Regarding his alignment I would tell him to be ultra cautious and line up defensive side of the rest of the O line and back his skills to stifle his opponent. When your QB is so good at manipulating the pocket and evading pressure just be super careful to align correctly and move a quarter second late reacting to the snap rather than anticipate the snap.

Good to see that we could do the straight and hard runnng up the gut to get 1st downs on short yardage situations as that will set up the fancy plays when we have a greater need for a big momentum play whilst trailing.

Bears O line is trash but Danna and Karlaftis made sure they looked it again which was promising.

Thanks... TV turned from the game before the second half even started. Was wondering about those two picks. Feel SLIGHTLY better.

PFF grades make less and less sense the more I look at them, but a few nice ones.

McDuffie - 92.6...which is absolute shut down
Joshua Williams - 82 - might be his best game?
Jones - 82
J. Reid - 81.7
M Edwards - 76
Nnadi - 76...what is this Nnadi-but-nice renaissance?!
Tranquil - 73

Mahomes - 90
McKinnon - 81
Kelce - 76.7
Rice - 74.8...nice
Watson - 70.6
S. Moore - 69.7

They had love for our pass rush but actually liked coverage more it looked like. Offense they hated the tackles and they are not Ross fans it seems.

One other observation: People who are too ****ing fat to fit into one seat without encroaching on adjacent seats should be barred from the stadium.

But that's the thing. He has cleaned it up. What he is doing is no different than many other tackles around the league. We would just like it to be called fairly. If they're calling it on Taylor then they should call it on every other team that does the same thing.
Though from my understanding of the rules, Taylor is not doing it wrong.

What? Clyde is a functional 2-3 RB... Are you saying we should roll Pacheco out there for 80% of the snaps?

I am saying the Chiefs need an upgrade at RB3.

MEHHHHH and his trademark 2 yards per run is barely "functional".

Look, I'm of the thought that this need to be Clyde's last year here. Despite that, I thought he looked pretty decent this past Sunday, better than he's looked in a while.

Lot of the o line was smiling when MVS TD was called back for Taylor supposedly causing illegal formation. Taylor was smiling too. They all know it's just bullshit.

I'd send that play to the league office for review, and just say call the shit right on every team, or just knock this tricky tack bullshit off.

Stalling drives is one thing. Taking points off the board is another level altogether.
