Nate Taylor: Chiefs targeting OT Ronnie Stanley in free agency

Quote:
When free agency begins, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle available on the market, according to sources. Stanley, who will turn 31 this month, started all 17 season games last season for the Baltimore Ravens. He earned a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and allowed just three sacks.

Decker is 31. Might be an option
His contract looks great and he is signed by them through 2027. His dead cap number in 2025 would be $31.3M. This would be an insane move by the Lions.

He's a LT.

As we know here, there aren't many of them laying around.

If that were the case, they'd cut/move money around to not let said guy walk.

Saw someone on Reddit suggest Dan Moore Jr from PIT, thoughts? He’s 6-5, 315, only 26 and has a 66% pass block rating on pff. Currently the backup in PIT. I’d much rather have Stanley, if there’s anyway to get him, but just curious what CP thinks of that move.

I mentioned him a month or so back. Not a bad thought to keep an eye on but he's not more talented and Kingsley and may not even be more talented than Wanya.

Ultimately he was the guy that convinced me that our biggest problem has been patience. There's ZERO reason why we couldn't develop our own Dan Moore. But it will take time.

Two years of production, graded however you like, is not good value. Not for a 1st round pick.
Got a 2nd back in it, drafted Bolton and got 2 years of fine LT play.

I'd say it was fine.

I don't know if Kingsley will be any good but people have short memories about Eric Fisher. Dude sucked for his first couple of years and I remember fans wanting him benched etc. I even think he did get benched at one point but could be wrong on that.

So for some guys it does take some time.

Something caught my eye in Seth Keysor's newsletter today about Thuney.

Something to the effect of, "I've heard whispers that they've liked Kingsley at guard from the get-go."

Possible they drafted him as a guard and only played him at LT because they didn't have another option, and he'd played there in college?

If so, we can probably put the possibility of him being part of a LT competition to bed.

What? So they drafted him with the intention of playing him at G long term, but plugged him in as a raw as **** rookie LT because they had no better option? That would be absolutely ****ing reeruned if true and Veach needs a sharp rap across the knuckles for being a goofy goober.

Agreed. My guess would be they liked him as at guard as a fallback, but had some hope that he could come in and solve the LT problem first and foremost. So now we're exercising Plan B.

I really, really don't know what they were seeing in practice and camp to think what we had at LT was going to be good enough last year. I know that's said with the benefit of hindsight, but damn.

... so was the plan at LT last year to wait for Smith to be healthy and bring him back? And it just never happened. You could tell me that was the thought/idea after free agency and the draft, and I would believe it.

If so it is really weird that Smith kept hinting on Twitter that he was just waiting for the phone to ring.

In 2023, they thought Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore would be appropriate as every down WRs.

Even the best GMs and coaching staffs wear rose colored glasses after winning a Super Bowl.
