Nate Taylor: Chiefs targeting OT Ronnie Stanley in free agency

Quote:
When free agency begins, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle available on the market, according to sources. Stanley, who will turn 31 this month, started all 17 season games last season for the Baltimore Ravens. He earned a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and allowed just three sacks.

You're ****ing reeruned. The only reason there was another offer on the table is because the Chiefs allowed there to be. That's not getting played imbecile.

Well we can always hope, but we've seen top FAs reject us time and again in favor of more money from a loser

So any time a team draws a line in the sand and loses a bidding war they "got played", even if said player was under contract and was given permission to seek a trade?

The Chiefs came out say 1 and made Joe Thuney the highest paid OG.

They were prepared to do it with Williams, but were ultimately outbid. They then pivoted to OBJ, which was another top option.

They paid Jawaan Taylor top dollar RT money day 1.

I really don't understand where this narrative is coming from. It's old and tired. Things haven't been that way in a long time. It doesn't mean they sign Stanley, but it's a silly reason to think they won't.

Paying Ronnie Stanley $28 million APY might legitimately make me throw up. Boy is that sky high in the risk analysis

I'm not mindlessly churning out some narrative either way

Just saying the allure of playing for a winner doesn't rank as high with players as I wish it would sometimes

There isn't going to be a tackle like Stanley available again for God only knows how long. If he actually does hit the market, you simply do not allow him to sign anywhere else. I know that sounds simplistic, but that's because it is. Kick money into future seasons, add void years, whatever, we're in great shape with the cap long term and can afford to do so.

You either pay whatever it takes, or you keep watching Mahomes be 75% of what he could be. No amount of money is worth that continuing.
No way I’m giving a guy who has only played 1 full season, in the last 3 seasons. I hope Veach doesn’t lock in like that. What good is having him, if he’s more than likely not gonna make it to the playoffs!

He was healthy last season and wasn't fantastic by any stretch. He was good. In a system that is notoriously easy on its OTs.

And that's the best he'll ever be again. He's probably never playing 17 games again. He's certainly never getting younger.

The version of him we saw last season is the apex for this version of Ronnie Stanley and no, he's no sort of slam dunk.

Playing the Sammy Watkins game against a team that simply doesn't have any players worth spending money on is an absolute nightmare scenario.

They should pivot to Robinson immediately. That's not a game we need to be playing at all.

Not saying it isn't worth taking the shot but you can't stop at FA.
And he's not the player people seem to remember him as before the injuries. Nor was he exceptional last season in an EASY offense for an OT to play.

This is a bad idea. A really bad idea.

I really don’t like the idea of Robinson.

But if it’s him versus getting in a bidding war with the team that has the most cap space in the league - damn near double the max amount we could clear up with every available bonus restructure?

Give me Robinson and hope Heck can clean some things up.

Definitely not advocating for it, but this is rich coming from the guy advocating for giving Metcalf 30 AND trading the Titans pick
