Nate Taylor: Chiefs targeting OT Ronnie Stanley in free agency

Quote:
When free agency begins, the Chiefs will target Ronnie Stanley, the nine-year veteran who is the best left tackle available on the market, according to sources. Stanley, who will turn 31 this month, started all 17 season games last season for the Baltimore Ravens. He earned a 70.7 overall grade from Pro Football Focus and allowed just three sacks.

That's because our most important player, Patrick Mahomes, played his best season in 2022. Hence why he won MVP. If your best player is on his game, it masks the other deficiencies on the roster.

Get him an above average LT and I’m betting we see a sudden return to MVP-caliber numbers, with or without a stable of elite weapons.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the LT position or lack of speed at RB or WR depth is fine. Just saying that with better play from Mahomes, the offense would have been more efficient last year, similar to 2022.

One other factor though can't be overlooked. Kelce was MUCH better in 2022. His YAC has disappeared. He's now a catch and fall down guy. The offense misses his explosiveness. But Father Time is undefeated.

I'm not a fan of drafting someone at 31 (or lower) and expecting them to be the week 1 starter. We need a vet with Kingsley being our new left guard, and all.

Agreed.

Give whoever we draft a redshirt season.

I’m not so sure Kingsley is the replacement for Thuney. Why would they not have just played him over Caliendo there last year if that was the plan?

Christ. I like the idea of Jaylon Moore, but for a guy who's barely had 250 snaps a year that price sounds absurd.

They value certainty and do not like to take risks.

Also Mahomes felt he had chemistry with the "new" make shift line. He may have been wrong but how Mahomes feels is huge.

Just pay for the LT you know will be solid and draft defense.

DO NOT WANT a left side combo of Kingsley and a rookie.
