Watch out for motorcycles on the road please

Twice within a 3 mile stretch on my way home I had some blue hair pull out in front of me. Apparently a horn does me no good either... need to stop by the hardware store and pick up some ball bearings for when the horn isn't enough.

Even before my hip started to act up I knew deep down that my riding days where over due to the dangers of other drivers paying attention to their phones, etc and not driving. I miss riding though, but my hip issues might be a blessing getting me to quit riding.

I just bought a KLR 650.... Haven't ridden regularly for 40 years. Got my class M...and I'm a long ways away from taking it out on the road. But I'm going to go get used to it again on the dirt. Nothing crazy. Just until I get used to a clutch and some slow speed maneuvering.

If you want to ride your bike super fast - find an open stretch of highway. If you want to do wheelies and stunts, find a parking lot.

Just stay off the residential streets. You're going to kill yourself or someone else.
It seems we have a group of those dumb asses here in Topeka. Last year, there were multiple reports of one of those sport bikes riding on Fairlawn Rd going over 100mph. That is a main street that is business and residential with speed limit of 40. Needless to say, the idiot and his girl riding on the back were killed when they crashed into a minivan at 10th. I heard some people (kids) in the van were hurt but no idea how they fared since.

I do realize cruiser (Harley) riders can be idiots, too. Still, it seems to me that it's most often the crotch rockets that ride like this. These assholes put everyone on the road in danger and also give bikers a bad name.

2. You're intentionally driving something that is more dangerous with very little benefit & is considerably harder to see & expecting everyone else to "watch out" for you.

3. I don't know if it's stupid but it's definitely not very safe & provides very little benefit over a car which would be much safer.

4. Yeah that's a bridge too far. I have more value for human life & don't want to live with the fact that I killed someone due to carelessness. However that's also a responsibility motorcycle riders put on other drivers, I have to be more careful when you're around because a slight mistake goes from being a fender bender to a possible life & death situation all due to your decision to drive a relatively unsafe vehicle.

And I also think it's valid to question if they should have every right to be on the road. But as long as they're there I'm going to look out for them. But the implication that I need to be hyper vigilant because you haven't made the best decisions on your choice of vehicle to drive is something that just rubs me the wrong way.
Nobody is asking you to do anything that you shouldn't already do. Driving is a privilege. Drive like you are in control of a 2 ton machine easily capable of injuring and killing others, because you are. And motorcycles have the same rights. If you are incapable of watching for motorcycles then you don't deserve the privilege of driving.

As far as riding, there is nothing comparable to wind therapy. I realize that I could die from my decision to ride but we all die someday. I would rather live life than be scared. That being said, I war a helmet and am a careful riderrider.

All I know is I drive 5 over and I'm always the slowest car on the road. People are selfish and inconsiderate.

Yes, a lot of inconsiderate assholes on the road. And driving skill seems to be much worse these days. I attribute that partly (mostly) to distractions, mainly phones.

Ever pull up behind someone and they're sitting 5 feet in front of the 'stop here on red' sign wondering why the light isn't changing? Or 'left lane ends' and wonder why their getting run into oncoming traffic.

So many stupid people.

It's never a bike thing from my perspective it's typically an age problem.

When I see people doing stupid s*** on bikes in public they're typically very young and looking for that dopamine hit.

One night I was driving on I-294 and got passed by a group of crotch rocket guys. I was doing 80-85, and they passed me like I was parked. But one of them, and I swear I'm not making this up, was RECLINED on his seat with his phone in his hands. I assume he was texting, but hell, maybe he was watching cat videos or ordering a pizza. Hard to tell when he passes you doing 120+.

I've seen people do some stupid shit on motorcycles, but that takes the cake.
