God damn Vinnie should be at the age now that he's smashing the ball and OPSing .850, but after some really good early years he's never really developed into the guy that we all thought he should turn in to. He's currently OPSing .661 and just hasn't looked very good at all.

It's crazy how bad his plate discipline has become since about the middle of last year. If he can play 150 games he's on pace for 120 strikeouts and only 36 walks. In his first 3 years he played in 263 games and only had 136 strikeouts in those 3 years. He had 35 walks in 72 games his rookie year and now he's on pace for just 1 more walk this year in over 2x as many games. Wtf is going on with him that he can't take a walk and is striking out so much?

Vinnie has looked a lot better in May. Would have to dig up his stats for the month so far but he's clearly hitting the ball harder and not pulling everything. He's still not taking walks though. Although one of his strikeouts today was clearly a ball 4 inside.

Just looked it up. For May he is slashing .298/.322/.464/.786.

So that is rather encouraging, but he's only gotten 3 walks all month and struck out 16 times. Also he has 4 HRs and only 2 doubles for the month and only has 2 XBH since May 5th. He's hitting a bunch of singles lately.

The lack of walks is concerning...I don't know what is going on there. In 22 and 23 he had 60 walks combined in 133 total games and 40 in 131 games last season. I was hoping he'd atleast because good obp guy but that has dipped esp so far this season. It makes me wonder if him and Salvy and Bobby are all trying way too hard cause of the rest of the lineup.

In his defense, Vinnie simply doesn't get borderline calls like guys with his eye normally do just. Yesterday's at bat for example, Vinnie layed off two pitches outside the zone that were called strikes... that has happened often over the last two years and put him a hole.

eh... while i love vinnie and want to see him do well, i'm not sure I would go so far as saying he's not getting the calls. In a sample size, i could agree. But overall how can there be something causing such a drastic change happening long term this season? Just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Kind of the same argument people make about hard hit balls. "Well he's just been unlucky." You can say that in short term scenarios, but long-term output that is just NOT a valid reason. Luck comes and goes but this is something else.

We will Never know, but it wouldn’t shock me if the organization is instructing him to try and mash more and swing away instead of being more patient. They desperately need someone to provide consistent power.

A third of the way through the season, it'd be nice if they could find a spark.

I would give John Rave a chance and DFA Hunter Renfroe immediately. Then hold off on the other two for now, and just give that a chance to work. We're winning games more than we're not, so don't upset the apple cart too much. But there's a gaping hole in the outfield and Renfroe seems to add absolutely no value whatsoever.

I think they should demote Massey and give Devanney a shot. That dude is mashing. And while Jac gets going (first AAA HR today!), I’d DFA Renfroe and give Rave the shot as CMH said.
