Cataracts

Anyone have cataract surgery? My right eye is screwed and the eye doc suggest surgery. Moving on 62 now and I don't know if it will be worth it.

That’s interesting as my experience with the. Multifocal lenses has been the opposite
Bifocal has the halos. Trifocal does not.
The trifocal lens is a newer lens technology so that maybe the difference

I drove a friend to cataract surgery last year. It was really fast, and after some days of recovery she offered rave reviews about the outcome. She'll get the other eye done at some point, but they only do one at a time for obvious reasons.

It can lead to blindness if you don't get cataract surgery.

The great thing is you don't need corrective lenses (glasses, contacts) ever again.

Had both eyes done about 9 years ago and paid an upcharge to get stigmatism corrected with special lenses.

Here in the retirement community, it was like an assembly line with 7 patients/beds lined up in succession, rapid fire.

I have no idea how the Dr. handles that kind of pressure on a regular basis.

Just saw my optometrist. I’m 60 years old. He mentioned the beginning of cataracts, but no surgery yet. I wear contact lens with uniocular contacts. One eye for far vision, one eye for near vision.

This would be the gravy. It would be great to buy regular sunglasses again. Scripted sunglasses cost more than I like to pay.

I bet that would make it tough to join the King's archery corps.

I was told in my last eye exam that I have cataracts in both eyes, but that it'll likely be 20 years before I need surgery. I didn't know that surgery would eliminate the need for glasses, though. Cataracts and nearsightedness seem like two independent things.

Cataract surgery solves nearsighted issues because you're getting a new lens. A cloudy lens is the problem. Remove old lens with a new clear lens and voila! The ophthalmologist takes myriad measurements to ensure you get the right lens and have great vision after surgery.

I've worn glasses since I was 8 years old. It would be strange to stop wearing them at 80, but the world continues to hurtle pellmell toward utopia.

About 4-5 years ago, I noticed I wasnt seeing distance as well as before, and optomitrist said it was time for cateract surgery. Id been wearing glasses since about 5th grade, went to contacts, even had RK surgery, so been through the gamut.
Cateract surgery was a bit uncomfortable(I accused the surgeon of using a blunt phillips head screwdriver at times, he wasnt amused.) But, I could immediatly see the differance. I have mild Stigmatism, but I dont wear glasses anymore. I have a pair I keep in my pickup, which helps with night driving, but dont wear any glasses during the day. I can read without glasses, but its better if I have my reading glasses. I dont take any of those with me, just keep them in the office.
All and all, was a GREAT experience, couldnt believe how clear and sharp things are, I can see my golf ball on the course now, and dont lose as many! :-)
