My mock with Johnson to us at 15

49ers - Alex Smith, Ultimately, they take the best player on their board

Dolphins - Ronnie Brown; They try to trade down...no takers

Vikings (from Browns) - Braylon Edwards; They give #7, their 2nd and next year's 2nd to get the best WR in the draft to replace Moss. Browns are willing to take less than "chart" value because they don't have a clue who to take at #3

Bears - Cedric Benson

Bucs - Caddy Williams

Titans - Pac Man Jones; I think they take Jones and his return ability

Browns - Aaron Rodgers; QBOTF, and QBs don't fall, despite all the speculation. Remember when we thought we might have a shot at Joey Heisman? He didn't fall either.

Cardinals - Antrel Rolle; giddy that Rolle fell to them

Skins - Carlos Rogers; replaces Smoot

Lions - Shawne Merriman; pass rushers are arguably the most coveted asset in a draft outside of QB

Cowboys - DeMarcus Ware; see explanation above

Chargers - Mike Williams; more weapons for Brees and LT

Texans - Alex Barron; more protection for David Carr, Brown's stock is going up with the belief he can play LT

Panthers - Troy Williamson; replaces Moose

Chiefs - Derrick Johnson; Party in the streets of KC

Davis is a great tackler as a safety, but how will he hold up playing OLB at 230lbs.? I'm certainly not against taking the guy...I think he could be a great player. Also, while DJ isn't as physical as some would like, he's not a terrible tackler. The guy was a tackle machine at Texas, and he is a playmaker with his speed and instincts.

I truly fear that name being called in the 15 spot tomorrow...Spears isn't horrible, just a solid player that doesn't make big plays...Would be a solid pick for late 2nd, to early 3rd but a terrible pick in the middle of the 1st round IMO....Watched him play several times after hearing people talk him up in the 3 or 4 games I watched he never came close to making anything happen...He didn't get killed or anything but just very average. You don't want to spend a high 1st round pick on a guy that couldn't even dominate college O lineman.

1) Thomas Davis
2) Carlos Rogers
3) Derrick Johnson
4) Antrel Rolle
5) DeMarcus Ware
6) Shawn Merriman
7) Matt Roth

They come away with any of those guys, especially the top 4 they will be doing well IMHO.

Most overrated defensive player that would make a lot of sense for the Chiefs to bungle the pick on:

Marcus Spears
I can't believe how much we agree on this stuff. I'm not high on Merriman, though, just because I don't think he fits our defense. He's a good player though.

And I'd add Erasmus James there next to Spears.

He played LB at UGA for a year or two before moving to Safety so he isn't going to be starting from scratch by any means...He is a nasty player and would translate well at either position IMO...Can't have too many of those types.

I've heard the Chiefs front office state repeatedly they want an "impact" player at 15. As you said, Spears is solid, but not what I'd call an impact player. That's what I'm hanging my hat on, hoping I don't hear, "with the 15th pick, the Chiefs select Marcus Spears".

We should, however, be concerned if we trade back into the late teens/early twenties, because that very well could be Spears territory.

Amazing....I really contemplated for a while as to whether I would add James to that vastly overrated list...Gawd, being a Big 10 guy like you, I watched him play several games and you want to talk about sloppy looking...James takes that bill easy. Watch James play about two games and then go watch Roth play the same position and you will swear Matt Roth must be Superman if you believe all the hype about James.

Can't argue with any of that. Like I said, I certainly wouldn't be disappointed if the Chiefs selected the guy. I remember thinking this college football season while watching UGA that it would be mighty fine watching him roam the middle for the Chiefs, taking guy's heads off the way Woods used to do.

Thomas Davis is the definition of an impact player. Read up on some of his bios if you haven't, the kid a playmaker and a nasty defender. We will be sorry if we pass on him just because of the little "S" by his name.

Well the scary part is what Carl Peterson thinks is an impact player and what truly is an impact player is light years apart....And if Titus is watching, yes after 15 years of watching Peterson play the role of GM, I could do the job better.

Exactly.

And the difference between the two? Roth's EFFORT.
