ChiefsPlanet Bugs/Features Discussion

Many of you know that I've been one of the biggest proponents of getting other people involved in making improvements to ChiefsPlanet. The server and software upgrade has been a HUGE improvement, but I'm sure there are many more things that can be done. Now that I've actually got a little bit of power, I'd like to see what types of things people are still looking for in terms of improvements to the Planet.

Important caveats:
  • This thread is just to get ideas about the types of things people want. However, there's no guarantee that ANY of this will actually get done because...
  • We can't just go adding in everything under the sun to the software. Everything we add puts more of a load on the server, and the whole reason for upgrading was to get away from that.
  • Anything too "customized" becomes a real pain when trying to upgrade the software. We survived on an ancient version of vBulletin for years - let's not do that again.
  • I'm pretty new to this admin stuff, so who knows if I (or any of the other admins) will be able to figure any of this stuff out without risking breaking something.
Also, if you've got a specific type of technical expertise, feel free to post that in the thread as well. Again, no guarantees that it'll mean anything, but it'll at least help if we're looking for an expert with one thing or another down the line.

lol! I may have to question my thinking now

Or is it that when we both agree on something then it must be right?

He was always posting help threads, making good backup BB's when this one went to crap, and is level headed. Really, he earned it, IMO.

what about the features that simplex put in cppiggy regarding the ignore features?

not seeing quotes of ignored users...

not seeing any rep or pm sent by ignored users...

That's going to be tough from the server side. However, a lot of them are taken care of by the firefox extension I mentioned here:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=182835

However, I'll keep looking into it.

I'd like more monkey threads. The lack of such threads has always made this place somehow "less" for me.

I don't know if you can swing that, however.

I've got my "-refresh-" link added to the right of the "post reply" button. It's not going to seem all that useful for most threads, but when there's a fast-moving thread, that button should refresh the page and take you directly to the first new post all in one click. Hopefully it'll work right.

I've always liked the thread tags (books, games, movies) on this forum:

http://www.forumopolis.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2

They have it set up so you can ignore certain tags. In fact, if we used tags, we could move DC back to the Lounge. If people didn't like DC, they could just block threads with the "politics" tag.

Of course that would require people actually using tags.

Oh, and we could have a poop tag!
