Well considering the inning would have been over had his SS made a simple catch and throw, no, I don't really take too much into that. Especially when you consider not one of the balls was hit hard at all.

In all fairness the 1st baseman wiffed on that. It was not that hard of a ball to dig out considering it took a nice big hop. Bad throw yes, but bad defense too.

Though the one you're referring to was an especially bad play by Eckstein earlier that cost a run. |

Grienke and Bannister continue to impress. Meche needs to get his shit together. If he does we can have 3 bad ass starters this year.

He should of turned it yes but I thought the pitcher should of just gone to 1st anyway. It was going to be a really tough DP to turn. In replay maybe not but when I saw the pitcher go to 2nd I was like "yes!" cause I knew the inning would keep going.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I still think Meche will at least get back to where he was last year.

I think he will too. I cant slam Nunez too much tonight. He hit one guy yes but the others earned their trips on base. No walks. He has been solid until tonight, so can't slam him for not being perfect. Guillen did not help that inning at all by throwing to 3rd though instead of 2nd.

it doesn't matter if eckstein drops the ball, it's still his job to get them out with as little damage as possible. you can't make the case that he was effective in any way there, and the way that play was happening, i dont think they had a sure out at first anyway.

If Eckstein had caught the ball and thrown to 1st, the inning would have been over, and the game likely would have ended 4-3. Ross Gload isn't fast enough to run that out, it wasn't like it was a slow grounder. |

He didn't get shelled by the Royals, as you seem to be suggesting though. He got the DP ball that would have got him out of the inning, and then allowed a series of bloopers and grounders that found holes. So no, he could have been better, but that was awful luck for a pitcher in that situation. |

The way the game was going I felt like the Royals would benefit from that so I got excited watching the pitcher throwing it too second. I knew the second he threw it there would be no dp. |
