Wow, this guy is smoking some serious weed...

And speaking of good career moves, Matt Cassel soon will leave New England, and it’s safe to say no athlete ever has left this region on better terms. Once the Patriots place the franchise tag on Cassel, the bidding officially will begin and the help the Patriots defense desperately needs will be on the way. No reason to think the Pats won’t parlay a backup quarterback into a starting corner and safety and maybe more.

Of course, a deal already could be in place. The Kansas City Chiefs, who have the third and 35th pick in April’s draft, really could use a quarterback. We hear Belichick has a good relationship with the Chiefs’ new general manager. It could be a win-win for both guys. Just like the old days.

Agreed. Don't be surprised of Tony Gonzalez is a Pat next year as part of trade for Cassel.

Guys like Matt Cassel can be found in free agency every year.

(crap, how many people will still get that reference?)

Cassel isn't a top NFL QB. I would much much rather draft Stafford or Sanchez.

My guess, based on the way Pioli seems to operate, is that he feels he can get his own Matt Cassel at some point in the draft, like he did Brady, Cassel and O"Connell (who I hear they are really high on) without giving up valuable draft picks.

No QB looked good taking a snap under center on this team, and I don't think Cassel would have looked all that much better if he would have been ehre to try it.

Thiggy's known qualities are that he can run a spread offense, and I still don't think it is known or not if he can or absolutely can not run plays from under center.

If he gets more work this offseason with the primary offense and can do as good a job under center as he can from the spread that would be one hell of a weapon. You could line up under center, look at the defence, and audible out of it to a spread type of play and vice versa. Ramp up the O-line some more and get a bit more help with the WRs and it cuold be a unique and potent offense.

That being said...I am still all for getting a new QB, but I'm not throwing the prospect of Thigpen out the window in my cup half full outlook.

So you are willing to trade your first and second round picks on a guy who has started for one year? Because that's what I'm getting at. Cassel has done this for one year, and neither he nor most other players in this league are worth that compensation, especially if you are a 2-14 team...

I would say we should develop our own QB. But if we must take Matt then our first pick is way too high for him. Heck, our 2ed is high too.

He only "thrived" against teams with poor Ds. His only signature win, in my opinion, was at Miami, 48-28.

On the other hand, Thiggy did some good damage to teams with good Ds. But our D let him down. So I would say stick with The Thiggen.

I'm sorry, but you would have to be the dumbest mother ****er alive or a Patriots fan to think Cassel is worth our first and second round pick.

I fail to understand why anyone would advocate using a 1st and 2nd round pick to draft a QB who has one year starting experience, and who will turn 27 over the summer - when you can use that 1st or 2nd round pick alone and draft a guy that is only 21 or 22 years old, and has one less year of NFL experience.
