Unsubstantiated Rumor: It will be Bill Cowher as Head Coach in 2009

OK gang, as you all know, A friend of mine from high school is good friends with a former player of the Chiefs and Steelers... just talked with him on Facebook and he said that 100% that Cowher will be the coach next year. The assistants have been told to find other employment and they are at the senior bowl with Pioli and he is seeing which assistants/scouts that may be worth keeping.

Cowher loves the new facilities... working with Scott Pioli... the new attitude... & he wants to be able to come to KC and be the hero.

Apparently, Cowher drafted this former player and they remain good friends. And Cowher told him these things... allegedly.

My friend isn't a big bullshitter... but this would seem to be too good to be true.

cowher and pioli have the makings of a very good organization that players would LOVE to play for...

so, I'd say 80% that this happens... flame away if you like... but, I thought I'd share.

How is it too late? The Super Bowl hasn't even been played.

What we know about Pioli is that he is meticulous, and apparently so is Hunt. This is how things are going to move when a team is no longer lead by 'the decider', Carl Peterson. Pioli uses his brain, not his gut, to hire people. Hell, we may all be wrong, and he may not even use his 'friends' as coache either. He could surprise us all and hire an unexpected guy that has no 'coaching-tree' ties to him or any one he has worked with.

There is no huge hurry to rush this thing right now. Hell, Clark said he expeted the GM hunt to run until the Super Bowl orignially. I have a feeling that Clark might have been under the assumption that Pioli was not going to actually sign with us, which would have drawn out the GM hunt until now or a little longer at least.

In the end, I hate waiting around, but I am enjoying the change of pace and style from what we knew before, which was absolute mind molesting shit. Hopefully, no more DV's and HE's will come racing in here teary eyed or sputtering nonsensical words to save the day!

It seems that Pioli is the type of guy that already has a possible O-scheme deided upon, and maybe a D-scheme as well. So, perhaps his coaches will be puppet type coaches similar to down in Miami. I am probably giving Pioli too much credit by assuming that, but we are all just going to have to wait and see...

Oh yeah, the senior bowl is important, but if you read what Pioli has to say about scouting kids, it isn't about the senior bowl, and it really isn't about the combine, it's about the entire time they played in college, so I highly doubt he puts a ton of stock in the senior bowl. That is good, it means he is not going to take a flier on some late 'bloomer', who suddenly makes a name for themselves in 1 game and some work out shorts. It means we wil draft kids that have had sound, solid football careers in college! Lets all sit back and enjoy the show... yes the show currently resembles a pre-talkie picture, but who cares, CP is gone!!

Jonathan Hayes as well. A buddy of mine was pretty good friends with Jonathan when he played in KC and we would go out 2 or 3 times a year when he was there. Nice guy. Doubt it is him though.

I know some aren't sold on Cowher but I think he's perfect for the Chiefs. A real defensive mind who took the 22nd ranked defense and in his first year got them in the top half of the league. In his second year with the team they went to number 3 in the league and he consistently fielded a top ten defense (12 of his 15 seasons he had a top ten defense -- 7 of those seasons he had a top 5 defense). He's a winner both in the regular season (12 of 15 seasons) and the playoffs and has won the Super Bowl. Players will believe in him.

And most importantly he's everything that Herm is not.

I'm not going to lie... I had more fun watching us lose games when our Offense was good and defense was bad, not the other way around. I would really like someone who is more offense centric... or at least balanced.

I have a ton of respect for Jonathan Hayes. Met him in '97 during a football camp. I think he'd make a great coach, but who knows if he's in the cards or not.

Don't get him started on the "football is a contact sport....." comment. You're sure to get a rant......

TUNA SIGHTING AT SENIOR BOWL
Posted by Mike Florio on January 20, 2009, 10:22 a.m.
At a time when rumors continue to circulate that Stephen Ross might soon acquire control of the Dolphins from Wayne Huizenga, which would then allow V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells to walk away with pay, Parcells made an appearance on Monday at the Senior Bowl in Mobile.

Parcells was spotted with G.M. Jeff Ireland and coach Tony Sparano. Jeff Darlington of the Miami Herald called it the “Tuna Trifecta.” (We prefer the “Tuna Trinity.”)

But Parcells, who per Darlington didn’t travel to any of the team’s road games in 2008 and was seen only one time at the Senior Bowl in four years as the coach of the Cowboys, wouldn’t comment on the reason for his presence.

”I don’t talk. He does the talking,” Parcells said, pointing at Sparano.

A cynical mind might think that Parcells wanted to be seen (even if not heard) in order to generate interest in purchasing his services if/when he walks away from the Dolphins with the balance of his contract in hand.

Amid rumors that perhaps he wants to coach again and given that his son-in-law, Scott Pioli, could soon be looking for a head coach in Kansas City, we won’t rule out at this point the possibility of Parcells wearing a big red sweatshirt next season.
