Football Shawn Zobel: Lions are in serious dealings with Cassel - Page 3

I had the chance to speak with one of my sources down here in Indianapolis. Here’s what he had to say:

- The Lions are currently seriously considering dealing for Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel. According to my source, New England is “actively looking to deal him.”

- Malcolm Jenkins’ 40-yard dash is going to be one of the biggest of the Combine. If he runs a 4.5 or slower, many teams will feel that his best fit at the next level will be safety. There’s talk that he could slide to the middle-to-late first round.

- The Broncos new staff is not going to continue to draft the smaller, quicker offensive linemen. They are looking to get somewhat bigger along the offensive line.

- If Knowshon Moreno runs a 4.4 40-yard dash or faster, he could be the first running back taken…followed by Pitt’s LeSean McCoy.

- Andre Smith’s stock is dropping. Teams are not happy that he decided not to work. Based solely on today, Jason Smith is beginning to look like one of the top tackles in this year’s draft.

- The Vikings talking about keeping both Gus Frerotte and Tarvaris Jackson could mean that they plan on drafting another quarterback this year. With Josh Freeman creeping into the first round discussion, he could be an option.

Not a chance...the reason they'd go with Cassel is so they can get one of the LT's

This is starting to get fun. I am officially moving over to the "we better draft a QB bunch."

I have been trying to keep an open mind, but I think I finally get it. Hamas made it pretty clear, sometimes I can be pretty slow.

I think Cassel is the flavor of the month like Matt Schaub was, so it would be another bad move by Detroit.

Pats would have to give pick/s somewhere back I'm sure...

I said "they would come out of it with the 1st overall" when I should have said "they would come out of it with the 1st overall though they may have to give some picks back."

would you give up a first overall pick for

(possible) Franchise QB (a guy who though me be "the flavor of the month" or benefited from starting on a quality franchise, or over rated... still had the testicular fortitude to lead an NFL team to an 11-5 record OFF THE BENCH)
AND
and the 23rd overall pick

?

Including the 20th overall they got from Dallas and the swap of 1st rounders they could target their main areas of weakness... pretty much all of them:

QB - Cassel
LB - Laurinitis, Maualuga?
DE - Jackson, English?

Well, this off season has been nothing short of awesome, so far. There's no reason to believe that things should slow down now. Perhaps, at long last, the stars really are aligning for the Chiefs.

New England doesn't have the money for that pick...I seriously doubt they're going to take that pick unless they have someone to move down with.

They have two 3rd round picks also and the Patriots have two 2nd rounders. There is all kinds of ammo for these two teams to make a deal.
